He developed a 'system' that helped actors perform in an authentic and truthful way. The author examined how Stanislavski's observations can be applied to preaching preparation. Five key areas were applied in the study; personal and corporate observation, using the 'circles of attention', deep study of texts used when preparing to preach, relaxation and authentic personal communication. The fifth element applied specific Stanislavskian terms - superobjective, bit and through-flow - in the construction of the homily. The researcher conducted a literature review of homileticians, public speaking experts, and Bible commentators to investigate the problem of PSA and what can be done about it. Additionally, qualitative research was conducted in which the researcher interviewed experienced preachers who have suffered the symptoms of PSA and have experienced improvement in their condition. The study used a narrative questionnaire of nearly one hundred Reformed pastors throughout the United States and semi-structured interviews with four additional pastors preaching from within a Reformed theological understanding.  The study revealed a heavy reliance on writing in both the preparation and delivery of sermons.  It found that both pastors and congregants deeply care about sermon delivery.  Multiple approaches to this practice were uncovered, influenced by the preacher's habit, personality, theological beliefs, and training.  A high percentage of pastors lacked training in sermon delivery.
