I asked the participants to take a sixty day challenge by keeping a regular Sabbath rest each week. The Sabbath rest can help prevent burnout and lead to a stronger faith in God. I used the case study methodology by conducting research through an open-ended questionnaire and a survey. The implications for not observing Sabbath in one's life and ministry are noted experientially, through research and the use of a congregational teaching tool.  The author utilizes surveys, teaching objectives, and standard research to promote Sabbath as an instrument for fostering spiritual awareness and healing. In order for the church, specifically the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the author's context, to assist believers in slowing down and developing spiritual disciplines of listening, prayer, and discernment, church leaders must first model these deeper relationships, resisting the temptation to have church life reflect the busyness that seems to have become the norm rather than the exception. The church's ministry response is reawakening its traditional role as sanctuary of rest and re-creation in response to modern change, identity loss, and 'timelock' which stimulates chronic stress.  This study examines the ways the church can empower members and congregations using rest for re-creation.  By examining traditional Christian Sabbath perspectives and modern scientific theories of human stress reduction and empowerment, this study prepares a process for churches to emphasize rest and stress relief.
