Although studies show that US girls are not more sexually active than girls from other nations, the American teenagers are more likely to become pregnant.  This paper explores the sociological, psychological and theological reasons for this phenomena.  It then proposes a client-centered Rogerian approach for counseling these teenagers.  This approach appears to lead girls to make healthier choices for themselves.  The thesis is based on the work of one counselor in the county adolescent clinics of Indianapolis, Indiana. Case studies and verbatims supplemented class presentations. The ten participants prepared additional studies from visits to inactive and prospective members, shut-ins and persons in crisis and grief.  Pre- and post-event instruments and interviews supplemented the evaluation data. Significant changes in the understanding and practice of caregiving as ministry were noted. Schleiermacher, Barth, Bultmann, Tillich and Moltmann are considered as most important from theological literature.  Freud, Jung, Frankl, Maslow, Rogers and May are the psychologists discussed.  A case presentation is utilized to allow an interpretation of theological and psychological constructs.  Specific conclusions and implications are drawn for pastoral care, theological education, church ministry and lay application.
