The purpose of the project was to change attitudes, so church members would willingly include more people in the future. Two sermon series (self-differentiation; sacrificial inclusion) were preached over 12 weeks, with pretests and posttests measuring participants' attitudes toward this change. As we welcome new members and continue to seek ways to live out our covenant to honor and celebrate people of all races, cultures, ages, abilities, sexual orientations and gender identities, our worship must also reflect this acknowledgment of diversity in our community, and must inform our shared experience of the divine in all of our lives. The polycentric model is where the 'mother' church and a cluster of one or more 'ethnic' churches operate separately on the same campus. Very few of these churches have transitioned to become truly multiracial and continue to either decline or plateau. This dissertation examines the history, underlying assumptions, possible influence, and effectiveness of polycentric churches, and provides a critique of such churches against a theological backdrop. The dissertation's goal is to educate and persuade racially homogeneous churches, in general, and polycentric churches, in particular, to consider transitioning toward multiracial congregations in order to achieve real church health and growth."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132589445087232,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:05:47.832Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:07:27Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:09:18Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"227f1897-1b52-4cdc-a452-405f3713afbc","accessControl_ssim":["fe97aee4-147f-4675-a9cd-69c8eec5836b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Resolving the causes of second generation exodus from the Haitian church in south Florida"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:07:26Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:09:17Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d0dbc324-a5e2-491e-b2db-2cc0e2f92e11"],"hasLease_ssim":["65f2b03c-48bf-4275-ae4f-c16459719b31"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"advisor_tesim":["Herbert V Klem"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Mercidieu Phillips"],"publisher_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"subject_tesim":["Haitian Americans","Social integration","Christianity and culture","Ex-church members","Intergenerational relations","Church work with youth","Church work with young adults"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author researched the causes of the second generation exodus from the Haitian church in south Florida. They became aware of essential diversity issues and personal behaviors that were incongruent with appropriate belief. They were inspired and empowered to participate and take ownership in initiating change of their own culture. Although each of these multiethnic churches have come to the same conclusion regarding the importance of being united and inclusive based on their biblical understanding of the New Testament, they have important differences in their strategies. Upon closer examination of each of these representative multiethnic churches, one finds variations because of differing motivations for doing multiethnic ministry. This study focuses on examining these variations. The larger purpose in bringing these distinctions to light is to help multiethnic church planters and pastors better formulate strategies that are consistent with their motivation and their theological rationale for developing a multiethnic ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130030027309056,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:25:06.980Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":14,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
