This thesis examined specific issues dealing with the use of telemental health in pastoral counseling. From this research two conclusions can be drawn. The forty-two Minnesota town and country churches in the study group are technologically ready for telemental health; however, the human aspect of using telemental health is lagging behind the technology. Throughout the Scriptures and the history of the Christian church, God has revealed his heart for rural people and places. The purpose of this praxis was to encourage and equip pastors for effective rural ministry through biblical, historical, and practical reflection. A group of eight rural pastors participated in a series of four one-hour workshops and a one-hour discussion session. The director was able to assess the value of the praxis through questionnaires and a discussion forum. Many academic-cosmopolitan ministers are unaware of the positive presence and contributions of 'local folks' in rural churches.  Only about two to ten perecent of USA adults are 'academic-cosmopolitans.' The author's research, interviews and personal experience suggest that academic pastors often do not relate well to locals who may be up to sixty percent of the USA adult population. Some of these perceptions apply to the churches in the community, and their characterization within these perceptions may have an impact upon their ministry. The small group curriculum provides a meaningful tool for pastors and caregivers, equipping them to respond to the needs of grieving people. The curriculum was field tested in a rural community with limited professional counseling and community resources. Popular church growth plans often are not applicable or conducive to such a setting and often have cataclysmic results for the church and pastor. This plan is adapted and curtailed to meet the needs of the subculture of the church while being faithful to its evangelical heritage. The step-by-step plan is given with the results, positive and negative. The plan shows that true church growth is possible in the established denominational church with forethought, research, and proper exegesis of the subculture and
