The transition was not without the investment of significant leadership marked by vision, focus, and passion. The IMB transitioned in 2009 from a purely sending entity to a connecting entity. Rankin's story revealed significant conclusions and recommendations, including leadership lessons. Chapter 1 outlines the purpose, goals, context, rationale, and research methodology.  Chapter 2 provides the biblical and theological foundations for missions.  Texts were selected from the Old and New Testament to demonstrate God's mission mandate.  The doctrines of soteriology, ecclesiology, and eschatology were examined.  Chapter 3 discusses the historical foundation for missions with regard to specific individuals.  David Brainerd, William Carey, Adoniram Judson, Lottie Moon, and Annie Armstrong were presented as examples of those who laid the foundation for missions.  The International Mission Board and the North American Mission Board were presented as examples of specific Southern Baptist involvement in worldwide missions. Chapters 4 and 5 present the elements of the ministry project.  The focus groups are formed; a pre-test and post-test questionnaire are used to measure the effectiveness of the sermons. Generation to Generation by Edwin Friedman is an important family systems resource for the study.  Instruments produced by XICOM facilitated leadership assessment.  On their genograms the participants indicated family themes, emotions, traumas, triangles, and leadership characteristics over three generations.  The four instruments aided the participants to identify leadership resources in their genograms and family systems. Through social research nine factors were identified.  The most significant were: 1) worship satisfaction, 2) key leaders keeping missions giving identified as part of the church's purpose, and 3) a blend between pastoral and lay leadership that was highly satisfying. Twenty theological students from five nations in Eastern Africa participated in the training.  The author's teaching methods included experiential learning techniques.  He administered the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the LIFO Survey to facilitate greater self-understanding.  He used evaluation forms and various other instruments to help the participants realize their strengths and weaknesses as leaders.  The author concludes that effects on the students' skills were in the cognitive areas of self-awareness and understanding of effective principles and practices of leadership. The method for developing the manual was through a committee composed of Puerto Rican pastors, leaders, and missionaries.  The committee developed and produced the manual, with a final workshop to field test it. There are seven steps in the manual which a church growth committee in the local church can follow in the process of developing a healthy church. The committee presented the manual to pastors and leaders of the Puerto Rico Baptist Association in a two-day retreat.  The pastors and leaders at the retreat approved of the manual which emphasized the contextual approach as a practical guide for church
