The author studied clergy-artists, burn-out and renewal, and the artistic heritage of Charles Wesley. The project leader chose hymns for their theological content and their presentations of grace. The hymns were sung during morning worship and the project leader led a discussion group following worship.  The project report contains context and setting for conducting the research, congregational history, strategies for presenting the project, and the project leader's own theory of ministry, expectations and goals.  Wesleyan theology and views of scripture are offered along with other theological support. Five Wesleyan doctrines are joined with fifteen of Charles Wesley's hymns.  The author attempts to deepen the congregation's theological knowledge, develop their awareness of the hymns of Charles Wesley, deepen their appreciation of his hymns, and impact their spiritual life.  The project includes five study sessions and five sermons preached in appropriate worship settings. Control groups measure the success of the project. The basic purpose was to aid United Methodists in the appropriation of their catholic heritage through an actual study of the pertinent eucharistic writings of the two Wesleys.  The largest part of the dissertation deals with the following eucharistic motifs found in the Wesleyan literature: constant communion, real presence, sacrifice and medicine of immortality.  Attention is also given to Wesley's 1784 Sunday Service, Methodism's Anglican roots and the progress of liturgical renewal in the United Methodist Church.
