This project examines two critical biblical themes of human sinfulness and the principle of male domination/female submission. Through a women's Bible study and discussion group the project investigates these themes and the women's relationship with the Bible. Using a feminist critique and object-relations theory, the project concludes that destructive understandings of biblical messages are slowly changed through relationships that value women and believe in their empowerment."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f3d74d9-8a9b-4580-a458-c2d78a76b977"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718073383518208,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:28:23.358Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:23:36Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:05:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6938ef0c-bcd5-4c99-86a3-f5783299f76d","accessControl_ssim":["a53b62b7-ff5b-4d0e-8e39-a12277eff9b6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["In memory of her: building women's self-esteem through a spirituality group focused on biblical stories about women"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:23:36Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:12:42Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c99d7cfd-3da7-40b9-9980-46a80e77080a"],"hasLease_ssim":["cdc0c6f2-ab13-406e-ad48-d8101a1e0f66"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Brite Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Andrew Lester"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Judy C O'Donnell"],"publisher_tesim":["Brite Divinity School of Texas Christian University"],"subject_tesim":["Women","Self-esteem","Women in the Bible","Psychology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Ten women were self-selected to participate in a women's Bible study and spirituality group. As background, Chapter 2 offers an overview of machista and societal oppression which Hispanas have endured for centuries. Chapter 3 reviews models feminist scholars have offered for liberating biblical texts and stories from patriarchal oppression. The critical components explored are: denunciation, annunciation, proclamation, reclamation, and celebration. Chapter 4 describes the Hispanic women's church setting and presents a methodology for study and reflection. Chapter 5, the focus of the total project, examines the live of six biblical women who experienced the liberation of Jesus. Chapter 6 reviews God's option for the voiceless and marginalized and presents their cry as the cry of God.
