This commentary serves to create a door in the barrier between the Bible and lay people. The project creates a door so that people can enter into the world of the Bible. The customs, social life, religious practices, and other aspects of first century Palestine are explained in relation to the various pericopes in Mark. As people understand the world in which Jesus lived, they begin to understand the spiritual truths that Jesus was communicating. The project also creates a doorway that allows the Gospel to enter into the lives of people today. As people understand the spiritual truths of Jesus' ministry, they begin to see how these truths can enter into their own lives. Suddenly they discover that God's word is a living word. The commentary begins by using Mark 1:1 as the framework for organizing the introductory material to the Gospel as well as delineating the theological assumptions behind the commentary. The body of the commentary consists of twenty-two sections which contain the first eight chapters of Mark. the comments on each section of the Gospel are divided into two parts. The commentary is designed for lay people. It was created within the context of a congregational Bible study, and was tested by a panel of readers throughout the denomination. The approach of the commentary, and the language used within it, are designed for lay readership. The total comments on each section can be read in fifteen minutes or less, which fits into the maximum devotional time most people alot each day."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135500241731584,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:52:03.784Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:47:18Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:50:10Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"04e3fcdf-9cf2-43aa-9910-e32ef621ee0e","accessControl_ssim":["013c8780-37f2-4001-8978-3ea8d930c808"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An essay on the Particular Synod of Michigan (Reformed Church in America) : its history, present identity and program, and its future"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:47:17Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:15:22Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a3bfc9dc-c78b-44b2-9190-f7578ea57061"],"hasLease_ssim":["5bbccfab-7b43-4a32-81c1-e46cc1d17f05"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"location_tesim":["Michigan"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Some campus ministers work out of no clear conceptual model while doing ministry. Others work out of a variety of models such as the priest/preacher, the evangelist, the prophet and the counselor. Each of these models has strengths and limitations as we shall attempt to demonstrate. Beyond this, it is my conviction that the paradigm of the sage is able to enrich each model. This project paper focuses on the three major Old Testament works of wisdom: Ecclesiastes, Job, Proverbs; indirectly on wisdom Psalms; plus on elements of wisdom in the New Testament.Closely related to the matter of models of ministry is the issue of self-identity in ministry. Campus ministers often suffer from identity confusion. They serve in a setting of faculty, staff, and students. The campus minister bears similarity to each of these, yet is none of them. The campus minister teaches, administers programs and continually learns. Still the minister realizes that none of these functions fully describes one's professional identity. Who then really is the campus minister? I want to argue that the biblical sage offers itself as a congenial and productive identity model for campus ministers."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135560101789696,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:53:00.871Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:47:18Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:55:21Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ef284c37-9277-4413-a51c-9e70139c9c9a","accessControl_ssim":["24f730fd-0061-4f30-98f3-7ae0d703203f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The use of Milton Erickson's therapeutic style to correlate pastoral therapy and spiritual direction"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:47:17Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:57:39Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["fd798d8c-da68-47ab-8954-b3760a8d09ba"],"hasLease_ssim":["e96977cc-f282-4b0f-900e-2b5a628e825b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Richard John Bennink"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The second part of the first chapter explores the development of pastoral care in the history of the church, noting how it both molded and responded to the dominant theological and cultural themes of each period.Chapter Two is a brief history of the development of the modern pastoral counseling movement. This chapter demonstrates that the movement came about in an attempt to incorporate new psychological theory and clinical practice into education for ministry.Chapter Three uses a survey of current pastoral counseling literature and the results of interviews which I conducted with pastoral counselors to describe the current orientation of the pastoral counseling movement. Chapter Four suggest ways that pastoral counselors may recover or strengthen their pastoral identity. This chapter explores the meaning of ordination to the pastoral ministry, with special consideration given to the ministry of Word, Sacrament, and Order. The final chapter demonstrates some of the ways in which the special skills and calling of the pastoral counselor may be used in the parish and addresses some of the objections which are raised to the practice of counseling by parish pastors."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135477770747904,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:51:42.354Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:46:48Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:53:52Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"94531b56-1dc1-4157-8821-514b61d26586","accessControl_ssim":["ff80d96d-9747-41d7-ac44-d525515f21f2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Staffing to fulfill the Great Commission : paraprofessionals in the church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:46:47Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:28:27Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["bfc39863-c615-4b73-a251-c430bba2844c"],"hasLease_ssim":["89f0650e-e9c4-4ca0-8a95-257a015783be"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Paul's letter to the Ephesians, chapter 4:7-13, is a challenge in this project. Being human is a gift of God. It is good. It is rich and satisfying, not in spite of the hurt and pain of separation and difficulty, but because in those times, one experiences the awesome, holy presence of God when there is a significant other there to sustain and to guide. It is in those times that faith is born, and the process of healing begins. The chaplain is a vehicle through whom God works the process of healing, sustaining, guiding, and reconciling. The goal: healthy, whole humanity living in community. The second section discusses pastoral care in the Christian tradition and how that tradition helps define the role of chaplain in a 20th century institutional setting. The three sub-divisions of the second section discuss the role of spiritual physician in counseling, Christian education arid spiritual life activities, and worship. Section three discusses chaplaincy in the modern psychiatric hospital where the clinical model is foremost in treatment; yet, the need for pastoral availability and theological resources are recognized as important dimensions of basic physical and mental health. The three sub-sections discuss the role of spiritual guide in working with the multidisciplinary treatment team as it designs the treatment for each adolescent, with staff in areas of relationship and spiritual growth, and with the community as it struggles to understand adolescent developmental issues."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135658430955520,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:54:34.645Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:46:42Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:52:53Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"653b21c7-e0f1-431a-ba7c-5a7a49be34b4","accessControl_ssim":["2a674260-586e-44d5-8b51-6c4e8c015e12"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A Heuristic correlation of Kohutian self psychology and Pauline anthropology as a resource for pastoral psychotherapy"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:46:35Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:05:30Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a1f03c10-c202-4ed1-ae4a-65e3f4d580d0"],"hasLease_ssim":["d6658bd9-037b-4b49-aa87-17b4f637d248"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The paper consists of five chapters and a bibliography.Chapter One presents evidence of increasing signs of narcissism in contemporary society from sociological, psychoanalytical, and theological sources. Pastoral psychotherapy's growing interest in addressing narcissism via Heinz Kohut's self psychology is also discussed.Chapter Two summarizes the life and work of Heinz Kohut. The chapter discusses basic theoretical and clinical psychology of the self concepts, and describes the special relevance of psychology of the self for pastoral psychotherapy.Chapter Three discusses selected aspects of Pauline anthropology. The chapter emphasizes the theocentric perspective of Paul's anthropology; summarizes important themes in Paul's view of humanity in relationship to God; and discusses psychoanalytic interpretations of Paul and his concepts.Chapter Four combines exegetical insights from Pauline texts with basic concepts of Kohutian self psychology to present a five-point correlation between the theological perspectives of Paul and the psychoanalytic perspectives of Kohut.Chapter Five provides clinical examples of the validity of the proposed correlation. Individual, marital, and group therapy cases are discussed in reference to the five-point correlation. A conclusion assesses the validity of the correlation and makes suggestions for further study."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135553866956800,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:52:54.925Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:46:17Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:50:17Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"06bf896a-b354-4e79-9fae-de753bf66a17","accessControl_ssim":["76454375-a043-421c-8643-a9ffde5ab30b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Ministering toward congregational maturity : a Reformed perspective"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:46:16Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:18:58Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["3842844d-2f39-4146-af26-778f94bad9a3"],"hasLease_ssim":["e1a97466-e28a-4d32-b8a7-6f9f2f82fb3a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert A Coughenour"],"year_tesim":["1986"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The practice of infant baptism requires covenant theology; only with this can the distortions of the practice be corrected and its criticisms answered.Chapter Two, building upon Chapter One, identifies confidence as the chief result of the living within the Reformed tradition. The heart of such confidence is the knowledge that our salvation is grounded in the love and initiative of God. Churches grounded in covenant theology are able to offer their people a 'solid rock' on which to build their spiritual life.Chapter Three focuses upon the 'reality and function of doubt within the believer's life. 'It is our confidence before God which enables us to accept and understand the presence of doubt within the believer's life and the manner in which God uses doubt to deepen our faith. Doubt is not the opposite of faith, but rather a potential within a living faith.Chapter Four, flowing from the previous three, articulates some definitions for Reformed spirituality. While the Reformed tradition is theologically strong, our practice of spirituality has been incomplete. The Appendix consists of the various survey forms I used in gathering information. They proved useful and, with modification, could be used elsewhere."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135392614842368,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:50:21.143Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13089,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
