Prior to the inception of this project, the members of this young congregation were complacent with the idea of staying within the walls of their edifice and expect members to come looking for the church, instead of the church's reaching out into the communities to win souls for Christ. United Methodist worship was studied in classes held with the pastors and laity of Gompa District followed with evaluations.  Other venues included Sunday School classes, Bible studies, focus groups and interviews. This project assessed their academic, social, and spiritual formation necessary to maintain their cultural identity as they adapt to the American culture to discover how to help improve their self-esteem, to teach healthy relationships, and teach freedom from the need to oppress, control, or to feel superior to others. The data collected and analyzed discovered that these young Liberians surveyed had good attitudes toward their race and national identity as Liberians.  They feel loved by God and believed they are good persons. Chapter 3 presents an integrated (indigenous and missionary) education, which the researcher terms palmedic.  Chapter 4 was facilitated through a study group, a questionnaire, interviews, workshops (one in Liberia and another at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary). The author and nine members of St John's United Methodist Church in Gbarnga, Liberia, studied the book of Exodus and focused on issues of contextualization.  They identified issues common to Hebrew and Kpelle cultures, and considered tribal elements such as proverbs, stories, idioms, and theology. The author interviewed 50 adult Africans to ascertain needs that may be met by an adult Christian education program in the church. The information was used to outline a curriculum for ministry to and with adults.  A unit on family life and ministry to single parent families was tested in a church setting.  Interviews and observations of the participants in the ministry evidenced emotional healing, acceptance of the reality of the disruption of their family life, and adjustment to single parenting. The five categories were: 1) vivid retelling of a Biblical passage (usually a narrative), 2) retelling/updating of a Biblical parable, 3) 'baptizing' a secular story, 4) a sermon centered upon a single image, and 5) an original story (written or extemporaneous).  Two sermons were preached in each category in worship services in Liberia, West Africa, where the author taught Bible and preaching courses.  The use of the fourth category is discouraged. The others are affirmed by careful analysis.
