An initial chapter examines the historical and cultural context of Boston and New England.  The invitation process and the complex organization of the crusade is detailed.  The effect of the crusade is measured by close analysis of questionnaires returned from ministers and lay leaders of churches who participated.  Returned questionnaires from inquirers reveal the motivations for attending and responding to the evangelist's invitation.
