Many of these churches are in a declining status, often due to the removal of the historic gospel from the pulpits. It will take preaching the historic gospel of Jesus Christ from the pulpit once again to revitalize these churches. Towards that end, this project was undertaken to help cast a vision for revitalizing mainline churches and to encourage evangelical pastors to consider pursuing pulpits in mainline churches, to replant the gospel seed, and to revitalize these churches in order to reach communities for Christ. This thesis is targeted at church replanters and church replanter coaches. The project seeks to provide a theological framework on renewal as applied to mainline churches, address the practical aspects of equipping evangelical pastors to serve in mainline pulpits through a church replanter coaching curriculum, and to set this vision within a larger historical framework."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130688413499392,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:35:34.867Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:19:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:12:31Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ba3eafb6-4b34-4146-89a2-34036548019e","accessControl_ssim":["eb21b00f-a017-40bd-8750-75786f304025"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Helping churches care: expressing grief in Protestant Evangelical churches"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:19:42Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:29:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7b209150-81df-4419-a788-ecf0a4a4028a"],"hasLease_ssim":["4c6bdb28-97b8-4689-9b67-7f2ed866ce93"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Pamela Cooper-White"],"year_tesim":["2013"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Cindy R Wallace"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Grief","Evangelicalism","Baptists","Bereavement"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The researcher used qualitative methods to analyze the grief experiences of Protestant Evangelical church members to explore what part their church played in providing grief support. It was anticipated that the selected churches would have: a professionally trained appointed leader and trained laypersons; a safe environment for hope and healing; a clear pathway for people to find help; and the churches would use both prepackaged and their own written programs/materials. The research method and design was a case study of these three churches using interviews, direct observations and documentation such as websites and print materials. The goal was to gather the best practices from these church ministries and prayerfully seek to directly apply various organizational and functional traits to Wildwood Community Church in Norman and in the surrounding areas. This research sought to discover how the selected churches structure and execute their care and counseling ministries. In addition, this research endeavored to learn new ways of incorporating staff and laypeople as leaders and workers in Wildwood's Care and Counseling Ministry. Traditionally, this task of preparing full-time church leaders has been given to the seminary without any examination of the other options available. Through case study and grounded theory, this project revealed seven components that can address this problem. These components are essential whether the leadership development process is in partnership with a seminary or whether it is completely church-based. Ultimately, these findings bring to light a holistic model of leadership development that can be implemented in any church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["fccbc3d7-874c-42e3-8a20-621b107c56c7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133093432655872,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:13:48.472Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:20:53Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:54:51Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3014dce8-0710-43cb-a33b-a24ac4a6151e","accessControl_ssim":["b8267b6d-b326-4f5f-8ed4-768166c254eb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Is the unbeliever welcome at the Lord's Supper?"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:20:52Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:31:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7c62ca48-9dc7-46f8-bec7-8c006a14b69e"],"hasLease_ssim":["0cb73bc6-b20c-402d-b671-25ca0c0c35d1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John E Johnson"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Eric Wayne Moore"],"keyword_tesim":["Lord's Supper--Admission"],"publisher_tesim":["Western Seminary (Portland, OR)"],"subject_tesim":["Atheism","Non-church-affiliated people","Evangelicalism"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study takes a fresh look at the biblical, historical and theological data surrounding the Lord's Supper to determine if unbelievers should be allowed to participate. The basic idea for the thesis developed as a result of class discussions on spiritual renewal and models of Christian spirituality. It also grew out of reading dynamics of the spiritual life and renewal as a way of life. Spiritual renewal occurred in the evangelical Protestant church due to their emphasis on outward mission, the fulfillment of the Great Commission, the person and power of the Holy Spirit, and the prevailing power of prayer. Both Simpson and Bright saw the Protestant church in America and the world as impotent and in need of revival and renewal. As they emphasized evangelism and discipleship, they became effective change agents for renewal, as they were able to motivate thousands of willing workers for the task of world evangelization. The parachurch groups they started were not rivals to the existing Protestant church. Both men saw themselves as working with other likeminded evangelical Christians for the restoration and renewal of the church to a place of prominence and power throughout the world. Eventually, many of the individuals evangelized and discipled by the Christian and Missionary Alliance and Campus Crusade for Christ became involved in local churches, evangelical schools, and missionary sending agencies. By the year 2004, these ministries continue in their efforts to evangelize and disciple people throughout the world in their desire help fulfill the Great Commission in obedience to Christ's command."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130491615707136,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:32:27.185Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:38:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:57:49Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a0c6b681-87bf-496b-a060-9e5210c96bed","accessControl_ssim":["1b17bc84-0d59-4206-8da6-907b5ae78967"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Unity with diversity: practical guidelines for ministering together in a changing world"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:38:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:49:19Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c3de634d-d997-4a22-a0ba-6cebdf3c3672"],"hasLease_ssim":["273efc9d-bf46-4fea-9802-8059a0e684d4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Talbot School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Gary L McIntosh"],"year_tesim":["1993"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Philip J Paulsen"],"publisher_tesim":["Talbot School of Theology of Biola University"],"subject_tesim":["Christian union","Evangelicalism"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project explores the current movement in the evangelical community in the United States toward unity. A review of recent literature reveals the evaluation of the Prayer Summit movement, city-wide crusades and other efforts to come together. The acceptance of diversity and its relation to changes in our society is also discussed. Several key passages in the Bible are examined to determine the key principles for unity to occur among believers and the place diversity has in that experience. A survey was conducted of pastors in the writer's local community to identify the current perspective of unity with diversity. Basic beliefs are delineated that are viewed as essential for unity as well as a clarification of the issues that are understood as acceptable areas of diversity in the Body of Christ. The paper concludes with a summary of the biblical principles of unity and some specific guidelines for the Christian community as it seeks unity with diversity, not only for the local church but for the church
