As a result, there has been an increase in the number of volunteers who perform ministerial roles once reserved to religious professionals. These volunteers often have not received the spiritual formation of their professional predecessors. Drawing from the U.S.C.C.B. document Co-Workers in the Vineyard of the Lord, the author has created a program of spiritual formation for parish lay volunteers. Interviews with 40 parishioners help determine the structure and themes of five church hall meetings in which stories of religious experience are told by people from distinct cultural backgrounds.
