The author served on the advisory boards of all three organizations in hopes of developing online classes for distance learning. After conducting research into the Baptist heritage of religious freedom, the author conducted educational events in five Baptist congregations in southeastern North Carolina in which he shared part of the Baptist story in this regard. Through multiple interviews at sites in Oregon and Washington, the author discovered that welcoming newcomers requires the church to adopt a missional mindset that serves the community. Congregants individually serve where the community sees a need and build relationships that provide a basis for introducing friends to Jesus. Using a pro-active research method, members were surveyed and interviewed, resulting in a grief program which includes education, grief groups and systematic follow-up. It was discovered during the project that evangelism was a surprising benefit of the grief process. Christians' hesitancy to approach Arab Shi'a, couples with fear, misunderstanding, cross-cultural and language barriers, and a dearth of knowledge of this unique Islamic sect are major challenges to address and obstacles to overcome. Traditionally, this task of preparing full-time church leaders has been given to the seminary without any examination of the other options available. Through case study and grounded theory, this project revealed seven components that can address this problem. These components are essential whether the leadership development process is in partnership with a seminary or whether it is completely church-based. Chapter 5 revealed the results of the American born pastors can bring conflict between them, distracting from effective ministry. The purpose of the project was to assess the value of using a covenant to enhance the relationships between these pastors in Chinese churches in the San Francisco Bay Area. Data collected by survey, personal interviews, and and interactive seminar showed an overall positive opinion about the use of a covenant between the pastors. The focus group participated in a regimen of training sessions, homiletical endeavors and practicum with the aim of enabling the praxis of unity in the church and the community.
