The Church should search for the same position that Jesus embraced -- live in the tension of being in the world, but not of the world. What would a worship model, maintaining this tension, look like? This thesis begins by exploring the fundamental teachings that are forever necessary to Christian worship. The Church's worship must remain thoroughly biblical with Jesus being the center, no matter what cultural setting. This must form the content of worship. Postmodernism contains some values that are in direct conflict with Christianity, and the Church must never compromise on its beliefs. Other postmodern values, such as the desire for community and the search for spiritual meaning provide the Church a great opportunity to express authentic Christianity and influence many. The cultural values help shape the style and the relevance of worship. This thesis examines four worship services from churches that are attempting to incarnate Christianity in a postmoden setting."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130392693047297,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:30:52.846Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:13:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:24:48Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"31b44aca-fff9-4c1a-9207-9d2134e063d2","accessControl_ssim":["5f21c140-5b45-4a09-9260-05375ac1d606"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preaching in exile: a Vietnamese-American Catholic mission"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:13:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:34:43Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a3076ed9-1798-444a-b09e-b1f788c913ab"],"hasLease_ssim":["a3aa6219-fe0e-4cd3-9418-125a39334908"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Seán C Martin"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John K Tran"],"publisher_tesim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Christianity and culture","Vietnamese","Asian Americans--Religion","Preaching","Catholics","Exiles"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Living in 'exile,' Vietnamese Americans suffer a deep sense of loss, politically, socially and culturally. God's Spirit has visited here, and churches and communities have been changed. Could such a revival and visitation occur again today? This paper explores the history of the church in Maine and examines those historical factors that have prevented the church from ministering effectively today. It also examines a unique moment in the church's history, a statewide evangelistic crusade by evangelist Luis Palau in 1999 and the immediate and long-term impact of the crusade on the churches and communities of Maine. Finally, some conclusions are drawn regarding what the crusade taught the church about evangelism and renewal in New England today. The need for repentance, prayer, care for the poor and cooperative evangelism will be highlighted as the keys for effective evangelism that will bring about transformation of our New England communities in the years ahead."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131244994494464,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:44:25.664Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:03:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:17:48Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e8b6cbfa-3ea3-4bfe-9e4f-ac2c65c2d276","accessControl_ssim":["3791dc86-1b70-49c6-ae6e-2d322043fbce"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A subdivision outreach strategy by the Silver Springs Baptist Church, Mt. Ch.1 introduces the purpose and goals of the project. It further acquaints the reader with the context of the ministry research project. Ch.2 is the biblical and theological base of the project. Specifically the chapter examines the people of God as a kingdom of priests, the power of the Holy Spirit in evangelicalism, the implications of spiritual gifts in doing evangelism, and a strategy for doing evangelism. Ch.3 begins with a survey of some past and current methods employed by Southern Baptists in doing evangelism before undertaking a study of the people a church is trying to reach. The last section of ch.3 explores how a church might effectively reach secular people. Ch.4 is the report of the project telling how a church sought to impact the lives of people, but that it is gifted to do the task. It was learned in this research that methodology in reaching people with the gospel is not as important as intent."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["55f1694e-f3f1-43ea-8ca9-da9a2899defe"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129573200494592,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:17:51.316Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:02:02Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:09:43Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"acf6f6c8-38f2-4345-8cd8-7f444f0c3bd0","accessControl_ssim":["5df877f3-e060-4a90-8099-c02b44ed7284"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The birthing of corporate churches: a Dallas legacy"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:02:01Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:07:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6fd0f1cb-2c4e-44f4-99cc-011cf4f5f1da"],"hasLease_ssim":["e2aa61d5-aadf-45a1-b8fe-9bc85011cbf6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["H Stanley Wood"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"location_tesim":["Texas--Dallas","United States","Texas--Frisco"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Larry D Thorson"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church history","Home missions","Presbyterian Church","Missions","Church development, New"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["God sent Jesus Christ to be the Savior of humankind. This mission of God, or missio Dei, is reflected in Jesus' Great Commission for his disciples to go and make other disciples. The launching of new churches needs to reflect this mandate for evangelism and be an expression of God's own missionary nature. In this report is a case study of three larger membership Presbyterian churches in Dallas, Texas, whose launches reveal some common markers discovered through historical resources and interviews with the founders. Larger membership churches have particular gifts for launching larger membership new church developments (NCD's). This legacy encourages the launch of another larger membership NCD after contemporary adjustments are made to the missiology of these previous styles of NCD. Then, using Percept data an analysis is made that will show how Frisco, Texas, north of Dallas, is a likely place for the next larger membership NCD. This idea has been tested in a public presentation and from it shows how an NCD in Frisco can be an expression of God's missionary nature."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129065146548224,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:09:46.799Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:51:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:52:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9666e59d-3d7a-49eb-a073-9b681aa2f08f","accessControl_ssim":["670234a8-15dc-4527-aaf0-e0c8c7f02e6e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A year round church in a seasonal town: local church ministry in New England resort communities"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:51:43Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:32:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["17186612-7a4c-443d-8db5-db7358635243"],"hasLease_ssim":["4fea47e4-e712-4b22-96a9-dbbb45444f96"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Raymond F Pendleton"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"location_tesim":["United States","Maine--Ogunquit","New England"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David R Clark"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Cities and towns","Church history","Resorts","Missions"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["There are many communities in New England that, because of tourism, are seasonal in nature.
