Grounded on an understanding of mission with a goal of creating a diverse and inclusive community, the cells and small groups offer a favorable environment to develop multicultural relations. Nevertheless, members of churches in this setting do respond to invitations to reflect theologically and to talk about their faith.  The author facilitated theological reflection by lay people in three different churches.  Church life and committee work provided material for consideration.  Participants readily accepted the invitation, quickly developing facility with responding to questions posed by the author, and making connections with biblical material. Its hypothesis is that an intimate support-group is their most crucial need.  The project describes seven dimensions in which the 'whole clergyperson' may fulfill his or her potential.  It includes several clergy case studies, an opinion survey of the more than 500 clergy of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts and an account of clergy support in the dioceses that surround Massachusetts.
