This is true for West Germany where a small percentage of the population attends church regularly.  Lay persons can be important in reaching the unchurched because they are in contact with persons whom clergy may not reach.  This project explores the success of the congregational evangelistic campaign in meeting the needs of the secular mind.  The lay congregation prepares and implements the campaign which includes a public proclamation by laity.  The author analyzes this approach by means of twenty-two completed questionnaires and several personal interviews. He finds that 1) although there are weaknesses, pastors and churches generally are enthusiastic about this approach; 2) the open style and the focus on every-day problems are attractive to the secular mind; 3) an important factor is relationships which form among church members and visitors; 4) the approach activates the church; 5) it enhances the gifts of laymen.  The project develops a model which describes the preparation, implementation, follow-up and evaluation of a campaign."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andrews University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4b1d9df2-25d6-46f6-a889-1871c277d61c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135340111593472,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:49:31.072Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:41:51Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:47:53Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5dd8d898-9bdd-4417-b572-6bdd210f68dd","accessControl_ssim":["1229dac6-c894-40b0-afd2-f514d27002d0"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An evangelistic strategy for reaching baby boomers in Rock Island County, Illinois"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:41:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:53:27Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0fb6f94c-a14f-469e-b6e7-9b4e7e183f9e"],"hasLease_ssim":["5921be83-fbdd-485e-99ea-6f543b1bf54c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andrews University"],"advisor_tesim":["Kenneth Stout"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Clarence H Small"],"publisher_tesim":["Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary of Andrews University"],"subject_tesim":["Baby boom generation","Evangelistic work","Seventh-Day Adventist Church (Moline, Ill)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project proposes a strategy for an evangelistic outreach to Baby Boomers living in Rock Island County, Illinois.  More than 44,000 Baby Boomers live in the county; at least 30,000 are unchurched.  The proposed strategy is based upon six valid and transferable principles drawn from existing literature and the successful programs of other churches.  It met with varying degrees of acceptance by members of the Moline Seventh-day Adventist church, and with little success in reaching out to Baby Boomers.  The major hindrance to the project's success is the inability to elicit commitment from the members or to mobilize active support for the strategy by the host church.  A major change in organizational methodology such as this requires significant time, careful planning and implementation, and a sense of urgency that the changes are needed."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andrews University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4b1d9df2-25d6-46f6-a889-1871c277d61c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135240786280448,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:47:56.348Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":9,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Anna Galeniece","hits":1,"label":"Anna Galeniece"},{"value":"Clarence H Small","hits":1,"label":"Clarence H Small"},{"value":"David Velázquez","hits":1,"label":"David Velázquez"},{"value":"Denton Wayne Rhone","hits":1,"label":"Denton Wayne Rhone"},{"value":"Earl P Cameron","hits":1,"label":"Earl P Cameron"},{"value":"Ebenezer O Sackey","hits":1,"label":"Ebenezer O Sackey"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"Church and community","hits":1,"label":"Church and community"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Evangelistic work","hits":9,"label":"Evangelistic work"},{"value":"Church work","hits":2,"label":"Church work"},{"value":"Missions","hits":2,"label":"Missions"},{"value":"Seventh-Day Adventists","hits":2,"label":"Seventh-Day Adventists"},{"value":"Seventh-Day Adventists--Missions","hits":2,"label":"Seventh-Day Adventists--Missions"},{"value":"Baby boom generation","hits":1,"label":"Baby boom generation"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[{"value":"Canada","hits":1,"label":"Canada"},{"value":"Caribbean Area","hits":1,"label":"Caribbean Area"},{"value":"Ghana","hits":1,"label":"Ghana"},{"value":"Jamaica","hits":1,"label":"Jamaica"},{"value":"Latin America","hits":1,"label":"Latin America"},{"value":"Latvia","hits":1,"label":"Latvia"}],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":9,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary of Andrews University","hits":9,"label":"Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary of Andrews University"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":9,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"1992","hits":2,"label":"1992"},{"value":"1987","hits":1,"label":"1987"},{"value":"1989","hits":1,"label":"1989"},{"value":"1990","hits":1,"label":"1990"},{"value":"1993","hits":1,"label":"1993"},{"value":"1997","hits":1,"label":"1997"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Andrews University","hits":9,"label":"Andrews University"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":9,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Andrews University","hits":9,"label":"Andrews University"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":9,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":9,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
