Applying criteria for authentic expository preaching derived from biblical and current literature to 14 sample sermons prepared by seven Korean Seventh-day Adventist preachers, the project determines that only two of these sermons are expository. He designed research to ascertain those needs and expectations and to find any differences between institutional and non-institutional members.  A review of homiletical literature brought to light methods that preachers can use to become aware of the perspectives and felt needs the congregation brings to the preaching event.  The methods of congregational analysis were applied to the Newbury Park Church.  Information from questionnaires, interviews and sermon groups informed the preparation of eight sermons from Luke which were presented during December 1985 to January 1986.  Feedback then was elicited from the congregation. Therefore, the project sought listener response to deductive and inductive preaching in the Pioneer Memorial Church in order to ascertain listener preference for one or the other of these two sermonic methods.  Eight sermons were preached that intentionally alternated between the deductive and inductive methods.  A group of randomly selected listeners reacted to each sermon through a standard evaluative questionnaire.  Based upon their responses, listener preference for deductive and inductive preaching was ascertained.  It was discovered that in numerous instances the listeners demonstrated a wide range of responses and preferences that prevents any categorical advocacy of one method over the other.
