This project asserts that PDT use in a sermon greatly enhances listener ability to retain biblical truth.  Six sermons in three pairs were delivered.  Three sermons used PDT and three did not.  Listeners were queried six weeks after each sermon by questionnaire to determine any difference in their ability to recall the sermon based upon the use of a PDT. A literature review revealed several areas where preachers believe the Spirit brings anointing to a sermon including the personal preparation of the preacher, the sermon, the listener, the preaching event itself, and the Word of God.  A survey of 178 Church of God (Anderson, Indiana) pastors was conducted.  The thesis of this study is that people anticipate different evidence of the Spirit's presence and activity with a primary focus on emotion or content. The  study identifies the churches formed by merger in the Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church between 1983-1998.  Findings are compared with the results of a national survey of merged churches in the Presbyterian Church (USA). The participants of this study were the worship attendees of the Holly Calvary United Methodist Church who listened to at least seven of ten sermons based on the Ten Commandments.  The study identified and described changes that occurred in affect, cognition, and behavior of these listeners by employing a quasi-experimental mode which utilized a pretest-midtest-posttest design with no comparison group. It also discovers what Arkansas United Methodist Echo Boomers report to be their own felt needs and values.  A researcher designed survey questionnaire method with a purposive sample was used to observe the opinions of youth workers.  A discussion format involving three focus groups of Echo Boomers made up the second portion of the study. Church growth literature, Scripture, and leadership literature from both the church and the marketplace were surveyed.  Thirty-two pastors were interviewed who have pastored churches that grew from 150 to over eight hundred. The project constructs narrative techniques in preaching and small groups to allow individuals to understand their lives in terms of character, plot, setting, and tone.  The experiment took place in a medium sized United Methodist Church in Ohio.  The study employed the one-group, pre-test/post-test design utilizing a questionnaire designed by the researcher.  The results were inconclusive. This study found that a collaborative shared-vision process was effective in preparing a core group to start a new congregation. This descriptive study explored the question with a large scale survey mailed to all members of the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.  The design of the survey questionnaire included both qualitative and quantitative items in a mixed methodology.  The data yield was rich, giving a detailed picture of the ways in which different groups of pastors make the decision to move.
