This paper documents how Covenant United Methodist Church engaged in such a study.  The plan chosen for Covenant to study congregational life included the use of such categories as identity, context, process, and program.  Data was obtained from adult and youth class discussions and from information gathered by distributing the 'parish profile inventory' to one-half of Covenant's membership.  A summary of all the data collected provides a portrait of Covenant UMC.  By examining and analyzing this portrait, one may better understand who Covenant is and what Covenant may desire to become.
