To answer this problem, the researcher began with the incarnation and trinity as a model of presence and touch. The researcher reviewed the Gospels to identify Jesus’ use of physical presence and touch in His ministry. The researcher also looked at the impact of presence and touch on the early church in the Book of Acts. He reviewed literature that focused on the importance of presence and touch and its influence on conversions and church growth. The researcher then interviewed senior and associate pastors of seven growing churches. Next, the researcher surveyed congregants from these seven churches. Both the interviews and the survey focused on how serving in the community through presence and touch impacts conversions and church growth. This study revealed that within the seven churches involved in this research there is, indeed, a direct connection between presence and touch and a growth in professions of faith and church attendance. Through his examinations, the researcher identified seven principles of how serving through presence and touch affects churches. As part of their missions, the majority of churches today serve their community in some capacity. Like any organization, the church is limited in time, gifting, and finances. Thus, knowing the effect of a ministry helps the church wisely allocate resources. The researcher conducted a thorough investigation of Scripture and current biblical material in order to discern the barriers existing within the missional movement. The researcher looked at key areas that shape the missional church planting movement: leadership development, theological interpretation of the early church, church planting methods and practice, ecclesiology, and the application and interpretation of Ephesians 4:11. Four church planting organizations participated: North American Mission Board, Acts 29 Network, Association of Related Churches, and Converge Worldwide. The objective is to provide a systematic strategy for restoring a declining, dysfunctional and stalled church to a growing, healthy and vibrant congregation. The field research involved case studies. Though every case study was unique, every church was found to have utilized seven turnaround factors in its revitalization. The desperation and urgency of the church resulted in a more immediate and less difficult turnaround process. Traits of the generations are discovered through literature review and field research, using the grounded theory method. Second, mission is described with eight viral factors that caused the spontaneous expansion of the early church. Third, the researcher created strategies to maximize the traits of the generations by reviewing which traits are leverageable or prohibitive related to the viral factors. Generational entelechies are discovered and generational cultures are defined to build a whole-church multi-generational missional culture. The author analyzes its rapid growth, its effect on local churches and its successes in reaching its target group of the formerly churched.  Research includes a telephone survey compared to a survey 32 months earlier and interviews of pastors of the most affected churches. Research finds that the growth was impacted by the pastor's charisma and that 85.3 percent of the growth was transfer with less than 15 percent coming from the target group. Contextual and institutional factors are compared in the two groups of churches.  Chi-square and t-tests suggest twenty-two significant differences between growing and declining churches. Corporate leadership is discussed from Biblical, historical, and theological perspectives.  A broad theory is developed suggesting several consequences of team leadership that ultimately affect church growth.  Questionnaire responses assessing team relationship and church growth are correlated by computer analysis. Examination of some growing churches reveals pastor and leaders sharing significant time together.
