The researcher reviewed biblical healing literature and research literature on PTSD and trauma survivors. The researcher used descriptive research to interview seven Liberian refugees in order to discover related themes in their stories. The researcher designed a virtual community, 'Sawubona.' The participants discussed their interactions with the church. This dialogue identified perceived and real exclusions and discovered practical strategies that both the disabled and local churches can use to improve participation. Participants were interviewed before and after the project to gain insight into their experiences with participating in churches. In response to this problem the researcher first investigated Scripture's mandate to the church regarding its treatment of single mothers and their sons, as well as the related issues of poverty, loneliness, and low status. The researcher then examined literature about the causes, challenges and possible resources of single mothering. These steps informed the subsequent qualitative research project that gathered data through personal interviews, field notes, surveys, and on-site group discussions with single Hmong mothers, lay leaders, community leaders, pastors, entrepreneurs, and educators. From this data a grounded theory on the subject of single Hmong mothers emerged. A qualitative methodology using observation, narratives, face-to-face interviews, and a survey was employed. The findings suggest systemic and organizational issues concerning policies and procedures which include a neglect and lack of positive rewards, reduced staffing and high turnover rates, differing approaches to care planning, constant policy changes, lost leadership, and staff refusal to float. In response to the problem, the researcher employed phenomenology and grounded theory as the methods of study and thus he developed a Christ-centered educational and ministry model (CEMM) that has the potential to bring holistic transformation. This model is built on the concept that transforming self is foundational to transforming society. This mixed methods study revealed that there is a connection between church leadership development efforts and how the workforce views the leadership as servants. The researcher designed, implemented, and subsequently measured the Missional Disciple Maker model. In May 2010, the congregation took the Gallup ME25 survey. Case studies were conducted on churches that had made similar efforts. A resurvey in November 2011 occurred following efforts to focus on people's strengths. Meaningful increases were found on multiple items with many increased responses. Overall engagement of the congregation increased, while not-engaged and actively disengaged percentages decreased. The project shows that an intentional effort might increase engagement and commitment
