Data was gained from on-site visits to over twenty ministries in recreational areas from Maine to California. These ministries were then presented according to their primary goals: worship, evangelism, counseling, and social action. A discussion of evangelistic strategies in recreational areas recommends the use of friendship, proclamation, and contact evangelism. Findings from on-site visits and research into evangelistic strategies are joined together in plans for establishing an evangelistic ministry among recreational areas in Maine. Possibilities are analyzed for outdoor worship services in campgrounds and on ski slopes, summer and winter evangelism projects, campground and ski chaplaincies, and evangelistic ski retreats."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Boston University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["2d58bd09-76d0-4970-b257-d55229e0173e"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718063271051264,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:28:13.714Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:05:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:36:10Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1208af3c-784f-4ba8-9a96-78463a04b33b","accessControl_ssim":["31ac6e77-9c08-45e7-bbde-9e8c1dae9fa7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The ministry of abandonment"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:05:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:38:57Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["89e48fd7-1de2-4321-b1e8-c33a7ec61b10"],"hasLease_ssim":["6ab6f786-e2c8-4e43-9dd1-8185471291f5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Boston University"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert L Treese"],"year_tesim":["1983"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John M Grenfell"],"keyword_tesim":["Congregations--Internal conflict"],"publisher_tesim":["Boston University School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Church work","Clergy--Office","Congregations","Laity","Methodist Church","Clergy"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Journey theology details how the pastor of a local United Methodist Church led his congregation through a period of crisis and change of many kinds. The church and pastor became more biblically oriented, more open and authentic in personal relationships, and more collaborative in styles of leadership and ministry. At the heart of the book is the concept of a 'ministry of abandonment', which may be defined as a ministry in which the leader/pastor abandons traditional roles while at once training and encouraging laity to assume them. Every Christian is called to enter into the church for the purpose of serving Christ in the world. Praxis education methodologies help fill this gap between calling and fulfillment.
