The guidelines/strategies were developed during a care-giving ministry that was in operation from January 1972 through December 1987. The summary and results are based on data compiled through the use of a guided interview format. Interview questions were used at the beginning and end of the program. An assessment of the program's effectiveness indicated that the program was a success. This project is written to elevate the lives of poor Black single mothers. Its roots are embedded in developing relationships and caring for a segment of our community that is all but forgotten, the inner-city or urban America. The basic premise is that relationships are the keys to changing lives. Regardless of the plight of people, everyone wants to be in relationship with someone whom he or she can respect and trust. The second tradition is informal, spontaneous activity which has its roots in the southern slave plantations of the so-called 'invisible' institutions. The project elucidates the African-influenced structures and methodologies of this natural, unintentional tradition of evangelism to enable the contemporary Black church in particular and the larger church in general to be more intentional in its practice of evangelism."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Boston University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["2d58bd09-76d0-4970-b257-d55229e0173e"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716070064390144,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:56:32.844Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:54:23Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:38:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6166d291-fc81-49d8-b23a-49ad27a445b7","accessControl_ssim":["e18b9889-4909-43c2-9591-0db77b76acf0"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Guidelines for a workshop on the practice of spiritual direction for diocesan clergy"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:54:22Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:58:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f118c4a5-3690-4da7-a2be-667997ce43ac"],"hasLease_ssim":["53ba5eb3-3a80-4f54-8937-ce382107ba7a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Boston University"],"advisor_tesim":["Merle R Jordan"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Paul E Miceli"],"keyword_tesim":["Priests, Catholic"],"publisher_tesim":["Boston University School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Pastoral counseling","Workshops (Adult education)","Clergy--Training of","Spiritual direction","Priests","Catholics"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The goal of this project was to establish a set of guidelines for a two-day workshop in the theory and practice of spiritual direction for Catholic parish clergy. The need for such a project emerges from both cultural and ecclesial circumstances. Many are looking for someone to help them to find and to nurture a divine orientation in a disorienting world. They look for someone to help them uncover and articulate the longings and stirrings of grace within them. This spiritual awakening has urged many parish clergy to seek assistance in the practice of spiritual direction. An important component of the project is the exploration of the common boundary between spiritual direction and pastoral counseling.
