A woman enters religious life with an identity, images and styles of communicating closeness or distance that were learned and internalized within the family of origin. These become conscious or unconsious means of identifying herself and her role as a religious and of relating intimately with others in a communal setting. It was based on the writings of Gerkin, McDargh, Crossan, and Malan. The thrust of the theory was the formation of a context out of which idolatrous myths could be identified, examined, and addressed in the therapeutic relationship to discern the consequences that might exist between those idolatrous myths and the problems in the life of the client. A case study was the second part of the project. The problems the client brought to the therapy were reality-tested within the working theory base and traced to their sources in the family of origin. The evaluation involved verbatim accounts of the client growth at the termination of the therapy based on criteria set forth within the theory base."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Boston University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["2d58bd09-76d0-4970-b257-d55229e0173e"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717339202060288,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:16:43.188Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:40:44Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:41:19Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a30a9f1c-1e8f-4583-9739-d8f177fde499","accessControl_ssim":["5d42c2d8-4487-47c9-bdad-e60a79aa6640"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Spontaneous imaging that occurs during preaching at Asbury United Methodist Church North"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:40:43Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:52:40Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c42c5b33-4fc0-4ee7-81f3-4fc54faaf498"],"hasLease_ssim":["41a6e36a-8957-451f-8d08-c51340da0965"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Boston University"],"advisor_tesim":["Homer L Jernigan"],"year_tesim":["1985"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Willie E Nelson"],"keyword_tesim":["Tests and measurements in religion"],"publisher_tesim":["Boston University School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Narrative theology","Narration","Asbury United Methodist Church North (Columbus, Ohio)","Preaching--Study and teaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project represents practical research in communication by the author, who worked with the Asbury United Methodist Church North congregation of Columbus, Ohio, to investigate the effect of story-telling upon the imagination of the participants. It becomes evident that the parables will not be confined to a particularized definition. The only peace one can make with them is to confirm that they are vibrantly alive and unfinished in their continual impact upon Christians. The basic thrust of the parables seems to convey messages about the Kingdom of God. The application of these Kingdom of God messages may be utilized in public worship, parabolical writings and church school curriculum. Examples of these are found in this paper."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Boston University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["2d58bd09-76d0-4970-b257-d55229e0173e"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715958971957248,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:54:46.898Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:40:15Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:39:17Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7459b38b-c4bb-4df1-8704-b8fa79e851ba","accessControl_ssim":["d55e1125-fd5d-4d26-a1b2-01e583e906dc"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Conflict management in the church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:40:14Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:32:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["58086bc2-1368-49a3-a3d4-d2c63b355909"],"hasLease_ssim":["f4e7c219-d17a-417c-958f-9ea0cc4e83f1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Boston University"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert W Thornburg"],"year_tesim":["1985"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Roger A Davis"],"publisher_tesim":["Boston University School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Behavior therapy","Congregations","Conflict (Psychology)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Conflict in the church generates much anxiety on the part of the pastor and the congregation. Deacons need to be trained and equipped for ministry through a diaconate that is seen as the worshipping and serving core of the church. The koinonia of the diaconate through their prayer life, study, and learning together; and their commitment to the ministry of Jesus Christ in the church and through their own lives will begin a process of renewal for the church. They will, in effect, become salt, light, and leaven for the church. Special attention was given to the response of the clergy to child abuse--their legal responsibility to report it, their moral responsibility to accept it, and their need to deal with their own psychological reaction to it.
