This was done to search out ways that would provide a vision for spiritual renewal and spur church growth. Christian fellowship was also used to establish a norm for Christian relationships. The fundamental issue of this aspect of the project dealt with the power structure of the church, how power issues hindered a partnership ministry, and caused people to be divided into separate groups. The primary focal point of this project was to address these issues by looking at images. 'The body of Christ' was utilized to emphasize that the separate groups were a part of the body of Christ. The concluding portion of this project stressed a partnership of ministry. Church members worked as partners because they recognized that Jesus had called them to community where there are different levels of ministry, but all persons are of equal value before God."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Candler School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["1e360310-aec8-4e88-a19a-00b4db71ef4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135111530414080,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:45:53.080Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:18:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:42:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"60ad399b-6361-42dc-80f5-22cc28b47e77","accessControl_ssim":["5c7c1fc8-2f01-4a5a-9947-94e80e07186c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Teaching preaching to local pastors"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:18:38Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:57:49Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["cd13ed5b-18e5-4199-a018-67f793bee8d0"],"hasLease_ssim":["79d6e2a7-1174-46c7-b368-22b4fd82794f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Candler School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Fred B Craddock"],"year_tesim":["1991"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ann B Sherer"],"publisher_tesim":["Candler School of Theology of Emory University"],"subject_tesim":["Education--Curricula","Methodist preaching","Theological seminaries"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project develops a curriculum to teach preaching to persons in a United Methodist local pastor's school, the first formal training event required of a person en route to ordained ministry. It seeks to clarify why certain passages of scripture, namely, parables of Jesus, are interpreted differently. The project makes use of four typologies designed to explore a limited interpretation of the Kingdom as found in the parables. The method of approach is in the formation of two groups. One group determines and evaluates the usefulness/integrity of the typologies. The second group functions as an objective/reflective interpreter for the project. The dynamics of definable, congregational, hermeneutical filters are made evident."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Candler School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["1e360310-aec8-4e88-a19a-00b4db71ef4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134875248492544,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:42:07.744Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:35:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:43:10Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"79ebbbe5-1e9d-4262-8e33-fdc17e531989","accessControl_ssim":["e8f49a67-adbf-40e3-81d4-5d7d15ae3aee"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Exploring and reaffirming the essential nature of church membership"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:35:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:43:41Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["50b1cb01-42ea-4e2e-a5d2-330cb2bfc354"],"hasLease_ssim":["3c16dc44-28c9-4a85-85b8-9ae4a0faa062"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Candler School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["George E Morris","Theodore Runyon"],"year_tesim":["1990"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Michael L Guffee"],"publisher_tesim":["Candler School of Theology of Emory University"],"subject_tesim":["Church work with adults","Church membership","Christian life"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The thesis of this dissertation is that many adult members of the church do not understand the essential nature of church membership. This project is designed as a means for developing mature church members, helping them grow in their expression of Christian discipleship, enabling the church to express its mission to the world, and assisting church members to make the promises of their vows realities in their lives. This project describes a series of six sessions with twelve adult lay persons in which the essential nature of church membership was explored from biblical, theological and historical perspectives. The project is evaluated by the use of individual presession and postsession interviews. The evaluation reveals that all participants gained significant understanding of the essential nature of church membership."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Candler School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["1e360310-aec8-4e88-a19a-00b4db71ef4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134944183975936,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:43:13.486Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:34:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:41:54Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"52bb1429-3531-40dc-99fe-ce2b1830181d","accessControl_ssim":["5afc3e73-f9a6-4ed1-877c-85939bbd86f1"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Symbolic function of church architecture: congregational planning for an architectural program proposal for the construction of sacred space"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:34:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:33:22Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["29bd2ebe-4933-4429-84b5-59a043e3ff6b"],"hasLease_ssim":["c70953af-784b-445f-85ac-8bb3127d4c86"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Candler School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Don E Saleirs"],"year_tesim":["1990"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Stephen C Compton"],"publisher_tesim":["Candler School of Theology of Emory University"],"subject_tesim":["Church architecture","Church","Liturgy and architecture","Language and languages--Religious aspects","Planning"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author contends that sacred spaces play an essential symbolic role in the lives of their users. The project tested a model of pastoral leadership focused upon the roles of 'reflective guide' and 'mission initiator.'
