This paper will examine the challenges the church currently faces in reaching out to Hindu background believers (HBBs) and suggest means through which the church can improve its efforts at evangelization, by taking greater note of the Hindu religious milieu and exercising greater cultural sensitivity. It will examine how the problem of differing social norms that have emerged between Hindus and Christians can be overcome and how certain tenets of Hinduism can be adopted as a way of accurately conveying the gospel while others will have to be revised or discarded for evangelism to be effective. The wider context of evangelism in Malabar is studied through a literature review, visits to the area and interviews with those who are in active ministry in Malabar. The author used a questionnaire to gain information from HBBs in Malabar. This study identifies the reasons for Hindus' resistance to the gospel and highlights the importance of discipling HBBs to become pivotal forces for change in the Hindu community."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132124649095168,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:58:24.567Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:21:24Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:27:56Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"22c0044b-92e6-4362-8d90-b2880ee91ffa","accessControl_ssim":["bda2b9ef-12be-42d3-a4e3-e319566fbc89"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Present and engaged: building spiritual integrity in misional churches"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:21:22Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:09:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1c5edb6e-c57f-45ac-b46b-8b21fe95cf7f"],"hasLease_ssim":["88b5e6a4-5c00-4c4b-9896-640348acc5a7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Garth M Rosell"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Mark D Acuff"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Mission of the church","Missions--Theory","Church and the world"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["There is momentum among churches to become missional so that they may effectively participate in the mission of God in a changing world. Calls from the evangelicals of the UMC to return to the missio Dei expressed in scripture, traditions of the church, and Wesleyan tradition, have been met with resistance and often forced leaders to form ministries independent of the GBGM. The loss of missionaries devoted to evangelistic practices is due to this basic theological divide. This project is a series of surveys asking basic theological questions of the staff of the GDGM, its missionaries, and some local church pastors. It concludes that the leadership of the missions arm of the UMC is still theologically liberal or liberationist/radical while the local UM churches are more traditional. I conclude that the loss of missionaries dedicated to church planting and offering Christ to unreached people groups is due to this division. I call for a new denominational mission theology based upon the 'emerging ecumenical paradigm' centered on the local church. Based specifically on Acts 1:8 I offer a supplement outlining what such a theology would mean for a local church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132256898646016,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:00:30.691Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:54:14Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:53:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9c554dc2-c18b-44c0-8a50-42122be46b21","accessControl_ssim":["2b7892ab-dea2-47bc-aae5-898ac95ae869"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The transforming missiological leadership and St. Patrick"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:54:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:42:35Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b8b967a4-3fda-4fba-b1c0-136e49ecf967"],"hasLease_ssim":["39100207-a909-407e-8350-7b0c890e1ad2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Steven W Klipowicz"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Michael V Moses"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Patrick, Saint, 389?-461?","Missions--Theory"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The transforming missiological leadership of St. Patrick presents original research on the surviving writing of St. Patrick. Yet today in our increasingly urbanized world, young people are less able to experience the wilderness. Young people today are unsure how to engage a world of poverty, religions, violence, and clashing civilizations. Thus, young leaders need reflective dialogue toward a theology of apprenticeship for missions. In the past 15 years the author has spent nearly a year in the wilderness with groups of young people. This study provides a theological framework to understand why the wilderness has been a common setting for developing dynamic mission leaders."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131785426370560,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:53:01.060Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:22:18Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:08:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e1838acb-00bf-41fa-b99e-ad5dc903aeb7","accessControl_ssim":["0dec8afc-0e71-435a-b9a1-6a115f45aa38"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Mobilizing Spanish believers for cross-cultural ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:22:14Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:35:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8b410ca8-0250-49e2-822e-5c0250cc93a5"],"hasLease_ssim":["7e5081ee-b873-466b-8c68-737b4f26abac"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Peter Kuzmic"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"location_tesim":["Spain"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Christopher J Matthews"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Strategy","Christians","Missions--Theory","Christianity and culture","Missions"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Thesis statement: Spanish believers who imitate the Trinity in cross-cultural initiative, who adhere to an adaptation model of missions, who follow the strategies of cultural integration, leadership formation and theological reflection, and who learn within an empirical environment will mobilize for cross-cultural ministry.
