The study employed a retrospective analysis of demographic and diagnostic data on treatment records from 112 patients who received individual treatment at the agency in 1986. Thirty-two percent of referrals were from pastors, most of whom were from mainline Protestant denominations. Marital complaints were cited most often among patients. Chi-Square analyses indicated patients referred by pastors were no different than those from other sources. Clergy respondents prefer a leadership style of people orientation.  In transitional communities, church growth is correlated with population changes and church programming. The model can be adapted to various areas of ministry. This project highlights the model's usefulness for pastoral counseling.  The qualitative study provided some initial insights that are tentative and inconclusive. It asks whether marginal members are removed from the active member roll because of per capita apportionment expense and, if so, what impact this has on the total number of persons on active member rolls of Presbyterian Churches.  Research methods include 1) an investigation of General Assembly minutes to highlight historical sections; 2) interviews with executive presbyters to compare the funding philosophies and approaches of twenty-one presbyteries; 3) a survey of elders.  Main findings are that 1) per capita apportionments most influence the rate of removal of marginal members in churches with less than 150 members; 2) financial stress increases the likelihood that marginal members will be removed from the active roll; 3) once a person is placed on the inactive roll that person seldom becomes an active member again. The negotiating method is adapted from the Harvard Research Project.  Pastors and lay leaders in three congregations are involved in testing the model.  They meet with a facilitator for five sessions and use two test instruments, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and World View Test Instrument, to facilitate negotiations. It uses a didactic sermon form and employs the control group method of research.  The project shows that stating the sermon's intended main point in a propositional sentence in the first paragraph positively influences the effectiveness of some sermons.  A secondary finding is that some illustrative material significantly influences sermon effectiveness. The study presents a definition of theological reflection, a brief history of the theological reflection process and its theoretical framework and several applications in specific programs.  Out of them, fifteen theological reflection instruments are developed for use in a session meeting. The instruments are used and tested in the sessions of five Presbyterian churches of the Presbytery of Philadelphia, Presbyterian Church (USA).
