Rewards were identified in three categories, i.e. Financial and Material, Status and Relationships and Spiritual.  The study method was in three parts.  The first was an analysis of ordinary and biblical usage of the word 'reward.'  the second was a questionnaire survey of all parish ministers in Baltimore Annual Conference.  The third was a series of three dialogue groups held among parish ministers in Baltimore Annual Conference. The data collected revealed that there is much going on in church and community directed toward ministry to the elderly but not enough concern being given to the ministry of the elderly.  This means a valuable resource of knowledge, wisdom, and energy is not being adequately used. The study not only collected data to support assumptions and project new learnings but designed and tested a process for helping individuals and churches do some planning directed toward involving elderly in ministry. The study proceeded on the hypothesis that there is  correlation between a congregation's practice of confirmation and the perceptions of youth regarding their identity and participation in that congregation.  The project identified two models of confirmation ministry on the basis of predominate characteristics within that ministry.  Eighth and ninth grade youth from six congregations equally representing the two models participated in the interviews. Although each church is unique in size and composition, as well as in the circumstances surrounding the pastor's departure, the common element of grief is present.  Personal interviews with church leaders elicited various expressions of sadness in the loss of their pastor.  With learnings related to grief resulting from death and separation, application is then made to the loss of a significant other, a pastor. Biblical and theological references are included. The shift has enhanced the ends of marriage to acknowledge and include the importance of partnership and community. This project explains a contemporary understanding of the sacrament of marriage. Additionally, it presents the John Gottman research-based marital therapy process. It demonstrates the strong correlations between a Roman Catholic theology of marriage and Gottman's Sound Marital House theory. The survey was distributed in a two-church United Methodist Charge in central Pennsylvania. This dissertation provides a theoretical examination of these issues, including the biblical treatment of widows, sexuality and intimacy, age, and the place of widows in the church.  A group of women, most of whom are widows, examined these issues.  Following their consideration of these issues, this group designed and developed an ongoing ministry program with widows.  The process used to examine these issues and develop the ministry program is described in this dissertation. The major areas of concern for Lutherans are: Fox's semi-Pelagianism, his rejection of the traditional understanding of original sin, and the Christology of Creation Spirituality.  These differences cannot be reconciled, but by approaching Creation Spirituality as an aspect of sanctification, much of its teaching can be incorporated into a Lutheran theology.  The result of this integration is a Lutheran Creation Spirituality. The results of the study supported this thesis and lead to the implication that churches need to understand that the manner in which decisions are made is as important as what is decided. Included are stories of formerly declining mid-sized congregations that have increased in worship attendance in the 1990's, and in which a contributing factor is the adoption of cultural inclusivity. Case studies were formulated from on-site interviews and demographic data in order to identify similar tactics used in the revitalization processes. Observation about the essence of the churches' vitality emerged.
