Incorporation of new members in the life of the church is a key issue dealt with here.  The theme is focused on the true Christian fellowship.  Without it, the church will face the crisis of losing the essence of the church, the body of Christ, and will be in danger of engaging in organizational maintenance work. The challenge of designing and carrying out a new member assimilation program aimed at introducing new members to the full range of opportunities for members to participate faithfully is the focus of this study.  The theological principle undergirding this study maintains that the church is ideally a human community that attracts and receives new members, seeks to introduce them to its shared values, norms, memory, convictions and actions so they may participate fully in its life and work as 'citizens in the community of faith.'  This study examines citizenship from biblical, historical and sociological points of view. The church can be more meaningful in people's lives when it is actually practicing congregational love.  Congregational love has three balanced shapes: sharing, suffering and discipleship. Congregational love for newcomers is necessary for the local church to be open to and inclusive of new people.
