A key component of the project is the creation and celebration of an installation service for church council members-elect.  The project rests on the belief that church governance is qualitatively different from the business management model of secular organizations. A bicultural, bilingual team is aiding a Midwest congregation in their spiritual formation.  Together with Lao and Americans, they studied and acted on the nature of the church using a Reformed tradition and a model of human culture to interpret the nature of the church. Therefore, it is critical in faith development to create congregational environments that encourage and facilitate choice-making for faith.  One necessary response is to enhance the kinds and frequency of connecting experiences in congregations to provide general encouragement.  The second response is to provide specific reflective learning experiences to help individuals clarify new goals for faith development as well as foster strong personal agency beliefs that these goals are achievable.
