This project was designed to improve the relationship between parents and teenagers by improving their communication skills.  It was a six-week course and used a praxis approach to learning. Parents and teenagers participated together in the class. Based upon pretest and posttest scores, adults in this project achieved a greater degree of improvement in communication skills than the teenagers. The sessions explored basic models of communication, understanding oneself in the context of communication, developing verbal skills, developing nonverbal skills, and developing listening skills.  Two testing instruments were used as pre-tests and post-tests.  Test scores indicated a significant increase in interpersonal communication skills. The workshop was designed to help parents and teenagers use the teen years for the process of 'de-parenting'.  This means through open communication to bring children from the organized world of childhood safely through the disorganized teen years to become stable reorganized young adults.
