In group spiritual direction a group leader enables participants to provide spiritual guidance and care for one another. The project coaches group members in using cognitive therapy--a preferred treatment for depressed persons in which change is accomplished through adult learning--to address spiritual needs of the member whose difficulties are the focus of any given session. The project facilitates a model of adult learning, known as Transformative Learning, through practice of reflection. Exploratory research and theological correlation procedures were employed.  The project conceptualizes how liberation ministry can best serve the needs of the estranged person in this church.  The model for pastoral care in the institutional geriatric church represents theory building.
