Using a pro-active research method, members were surveyed and interviewed, resulting in a grief program which includes education, grief groups and systematic follow-up. It was discovered during the project that evangelism was a surprising benefit of the grief process. It proposes the thesis that it is possible to recount a congregation's history by listening to the preaching that occurred there. The project conducts a literary analysis of sermons preached in three Lutheran congregations in Northwest Ohio during a given year.  This analysis is laid alongside the descriptions of significant parish events in bulletins, newsletters and other written documents. Ordained and lay ministers may employ the model by using resources available where they minister.  The project includes a description of an application of the model to youth ministry. Twenty appendixes document the process.  A definition of Lutheran ministry, a report on a multi-lingual survey of youth ministers in four countries, a theological statement for youth ministry and a method for improving skills are included.  The project concludes by noting the strengths and weaknesses of the model determined by the writer and by four
