An experientially oriented four-session course was developed for 42 ninth-grade confirmands and their parents. Five instructors were trained as small group leaders. A pre-test and post-test was administered to the confirmands and parents, and a follow-up interview was conducted by the two pastors. Conclusions are: 1) Careful attention to educational theory and practice pays dividends; 2) Work with the group leaders was necessary to the success of the program; 3) The evaluative tools provided a focus for the entire study by keeping the work on target; 4) The intergenerational scope of the project was vital to the confirmands' and parents' learning and to the enrichment of their understanding of ministry; 5) A new understanding of 'the priesthood of all believers' enhanced appreciation of their own Christian ministries."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719955121307648,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:58:17.923Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:27:09Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:10:48Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"bae15618-db1a-4fa4-aecc-7719d797ead5","accessControl_ssim":["aecb4804-e26a-4024-b203-0be888071e4d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Equipping parents for intergenerational learning"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:27:08Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:30:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["542ddf8e-5a5f-47a2-84f7-3d7cb94d1d0d"],"hasLease_ssim":["26b99a68-cc95-4aca-a150-6ce833c787a0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Luther Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Kent L Johnson"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Lyle E Rossing"],"publisher_tesim":["Luther Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Lutheran Church--Education","Church work","Parent and child--Religious aspects--Christianity","Age groups"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The study is to equip parents in a ministry of leadership to develop a program of intergenerational learning in a Lutheran congregation. Models are: Niebuhr's Christ as transformer of culture, Dulles' church as mystical communion, and Niebuhr's minister as pastoral director. The family may act as a small church. The thesis states that it is appropriate to use the form of the Family Home Evening Program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) in a United Presbyterian Church (UPC) using UPC content. Twelve sessions were written. Seven LDS theological beliefs regarding families are considered and compared with UPC beliefs. This presupposed that LDS theology gave more support to families than UPC beliefs. The thesis concludes that beliefs of one church are as strong for its members as beliefs of the other church are for its members. The stages of identity, intimacy and generativity are used as an interpretative schema for identifying the major developmental stages. The primary tasks that constitute each of these stages were correlated with particular sections in the Spiritual Exercises in order to identify the operative developmental process. Individuals were directed through the Exercises. the director kept notes from each meeting which, along with the results of pre- and post-set instruments, and the the director's observations of the exercitants in their living and ministerial setting, provided the primary data for the thesis. The work of Ignatian scholars, and the work of developmental psychologists provided data that was also essential to the thesis development. The source data sustained the thesis that identity, intimacy and generativity and the tasks operative within each respective stage are major developmental stages within the Spiritual Exercises."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717312675184640,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:16:17.890Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:21:46Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:58:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a2c29e6b-c922-4ee9-afe1-85db7298a14a","accessControl_ssim":["129fe4cd-7d4f-4287-9541-71a288e8cc8b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Effective lay counseling: theology, theory, and practice"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:21:45Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:52:13Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["223f6f7e-30aa-4961-aa83-a06564c4faec"],"hasLease_ssim":["6957faa8-af53-443d-b0fe-4a54a1787224"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Luther Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Daniel Lambrides"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Stephen A Grunlan"],"publisher_tesim":["Luther Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Pastoral counseling","Image of God","Lay Church work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The thesis is that a theology and theory of lay counseling can be developed and communicated to the laity.
