He demonstrates that many of the materials recommended by non-Lutherans are consistent with the teachings of the confessions while some of the 'Lutheran' materials are not. The model was proof tested in a retreat setting and results are assessed. The research was undertaken in response to the challenge by local, state and national government officials to religious bodies who were encouraged to give their time and money to meet the needs of people which were no longer met through tax dollars.  A list of 98 different outreach services was identified. Underlying this process is an understanding of language as abstraction, a product of human imagination.  From these understandings, an adolescent confirmation program is developed.  The Faith Development Model of James Fowler is used as a check of this program. Pastors in six Protestant denominations responded to questionnaires. Children from four Protestant denominations were surveyed. The data is described and analyzed.  Children in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) seem to have less membership identity than children in the Lutheran and Episcopal churches. It questions whether a new humanity occurs when one is united with Christ and if so, the character of that new life.  This concern grew out of the pastoral and personal experience of the author who sought to understand the church's claim of a new order of human existence when one is in Christ stated in Paul's assertion that 'if any one is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come' (2 Cor 5:17). This 'new creation' manifesting itself in a 'new humanity' is the controlling motif of the thesis. The biblical foundations of this concept are examined in the writings of Paul. Critical and systematic explication is based on the existential categories of Paul Tillich; the eschatological dimensions of hope in Juergen Moltmann; and in the theologies of liberation. Psychologically, Carl Jung's concept of 'individuation' and Abraham Maslow's 'self-actualization' are considered. Being 'in Christ' creates a transformed humanity.
