This retreat is to reintensify the community life in a Catholic parish. Methods of study included: 1) Research on the theological understanding of community life in the parish and on the essence and goals of the Cursillo Movement; and 2) Implementation and evaluation of the retreat model designed on the basis of the research. A theoretical chapter argues that religious experiences are unique and qualitatively different from natural experiences without, on the opposite extreme, becoming irrelevant magical supernatural events.  Research, by test and interview, explored the relationship between religious experience and service.  Results: People from mainline churches claimed religious experiences that associate with natural reality and extend service that is humanistic and personal in orientation. The historical sources provide sufficient information concerning the colonization and exploitation of Puerto Rico by Spain and the United States.  Puerto Rico's history was examined in the context of the quest of these two countries for imperial power in the Western Hemisphere.  A knowledge of history is essential to a proper understanding of theology, so historical and theological sources have been combined. The theological sources, especially the Bible, give validity to the case for independence.
