Data gathered are the results of the evauation of a four month program for an alcohol prevention project.  Thirty two adults made up the target group.  Subjects were pre- and post-tested on the following variables:  building bonds, mobilizing coalitions, increasing awareness in skills and resources and mobilizing family and extended family. Results indicated that the program had a significant positive impact on the target subjects in reference to all variables tested. Research data from numerous sources provide a portrait of welfare in the United States and was used to implement educational and motivational activities to empower affected families making the transition to self-sufficiency. After completion of the project, participating recipients were prepared to make the transition. Individuals who participate in this ministry project must have a desire to transform their economic status beyond receiving temporary band-aid assistance to acquiring long-term comprehensive remedies for the wounds they are inflicted with as a result of living in poverty.  This transition will allow the poor to become meaningful participants in the economy.  Since gainful employment is the cure for their poverty wounds, they will be empowered to learn to use their talents and resources to sustain themselves and their families and enjoy a meaningful life. This empowerment process will be implemented through training in various basic education, employment, and financial management skills. The original Oremus was built around the Daily Prayer Cycle.  The initial vision for the new edition was to retain several of the Daily Offices, but broaden it to include contemporary hymns, texts and prayers written by students and campus ministry staff.  Early in the project the question arose as to whether one generation can write a worship resource for another generation.  Therefore, the editorial process included an extensive questionnaire that was sent to regional officers of the Lutheran Student Movement, (successor to the LSAA), along with a draft of Oremus, which they were to respond to on the questionnaire along with their local worshipping communities. Using a feminist approach to qualitative methodology, nine diaconal ministers were interviewed to examine their reasons for choosing ordination.  Personal and systemic reasons emerged, including sense of calling, need for education and employment security, career development, contextual influences and church policies. Sexism and the marginalization of diaconal ministers were factors. The resource includes a video, 'Through the Pane,' and a study guide, which offers a process for viewing this artistic rendering of transformation.  The process initiated by the study guide was critiqued and the data from the respondents were analysed through qualitative research methodology.  Shortcomings within the initial study guide were identified and a revised study guide is included in the dissertation. The author, a chaplain serving in the Air Force, met the pastoral care needs of airmen at Osan Air Base in Korea through a pastoral care program of group and individual counseling. Assessing group attendance and pastoral care needs the author found that a combination of individual counseling and small group attendance was most effective for spiritual health. The step-by-step plan is given with the results, positive and negative.
