Christian families are losing children to the world at a startling pace. The question of who is responsible for the discipleship of children does not receive enough attention. In practice, churches have looked to serve families by performing this function. This research addresses parents’ roles and responsibilities. Among Christians, there can be an inconsistency between doctrine and practice. Children are abandoning Christianity later in life, and many parents are struggling to fulfill their call to nurture their children in the faith. A multitude of measures are being undertaken by faithful congregations to avert the crisis in families. Genesis 1, Deuteronomy 6, Psalm 78, Ephesians 6, and the Pastoral Epistles lay the expectation that parents will function as the primary disciple makers for children. With the concept of sphere sovereignty and more, Abraham Kuyper offers unique insights into this conversation. After examining the current literature and models for family ministry in churches, the field research explores the ministry models of three particular churches on this issue. Each ministry model brings unique biblical approaches in their endeavor to ensure the faith “once for all delivered to saints” is passed to succeeding generations. Each model also faces challenges unique to the approach they have adopted. This research proposes a new “Every Square Inch” discipleship model. The model enables the family and the church to carry out their respective roles while avoiding abrogating the responsibilities given to other parties. This analysis and model are intended to equip Basswood Church in Knoxville, TN in their efforts to see faithful disciples formed in the next generation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128725080768512,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:04:22.487Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:12:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:06:38Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b3400205-f515-425b-ac43-0373f7504659","accessControl_ssim":["fcca813d-6997-49bb-a13a-677c461efa7a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Presbyterian Polity In Practice: A Commentary On The Book Of Church Orderof The Presbyterian Church In America"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:12:26Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:18:45Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["43542de6-b896-4a0d-bedc-c05c7fcef267"],"hasLease_ssim":["4ca61c99-347c-46af-8346-fc3306785bfc"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Reformed Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Guy Waters Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2023"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The study begins by demonstrating the debate over the use and interpretation of the BCO within the PCA. It introduces the debate by putting the BCO into the context of the Constitution of the PCA, examining its relation to the Westminster Standards, and how subscription to the Standards affects operating under the BCO. Having put the BCO into the larger context of the Constitution of the PCA, it explores the current debate over polity before examining the resources available to illuminate the BCO. The study moves then to the basic biblical principles of Presbyterian church government. It investigates the headship of Christ as the foundational principle of Church government before working out the implications of his headship in jure divino government and the regulative principle. An examination of Acts 15 shows Christ’s headship in action in the life of the Church, leading to an exploration of the fundamental Scriptural principles that underlie and shape Presbyterian polity. The study then surveys the historical development of the BCO from its beginnings in the Colonial era to the current time to see the significant influences that shaped it. This historical context gives the framework to understand both the larger shape of the Church laid out by the BCO and some of the individual provisions. The study culminates in a chapter-by-chapter commentary on the BCO that marries the broad context identified in the rest of the study to the narrow context of the history and basis of each specific provision to provide an easy-to-use reference for the elders of the Church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128872026112000,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:06:42.624Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:12:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:28:52Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"636f7a6a-3688-4707-8b41-76a6795c2e08","accessControl_ssim":["e11847b8-b971-477d-a4b1-ff5b4898f377"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Recovering The Theology Of Union With Christ To Address Christian Identity Issues"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:12:25Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:02:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["afe9a2f1-fa8f-42ac-838d-7f424ded99e4"],"hasLease_ssim":["103bf88a-6805-4c10-94dc-735f29d177fb"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Reformed Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["S. This project seeks toreclaim union with Christ as the core of Christian identity and to develop a curriculum forteaching this concept. Psychologists consider the formation of personal identity to be the boundarymilestone to adulthood. A stable sense of identity provides a rootedness that allows aperson to weather the changes of his life, social network, and the world.Without a stable identity, the person may well look to the world to make sense of himself, leaving him vulnerable to the loudest voice of the day whether that is media, individuals,or government. Recent changes in society have made forming a stable identity far more difficultthan in previous generations. The mobility of society has removed the identity of place;the breakup of families has removed the identity of family; expanding horizons ofeducation and career have blurred class and occupational identities. The church is not immune to these difficulties. A personal identity is only as strong as the ideas and principles on which it is built. The concept of union with Christ gives believers a framework of identity based on who they are in Christ. In Christ, believers are given meaning and purpose as they join God’s mission of reconciliation. In union with Christ, the image of God damaged by sinis restored. This restores the believer to what he was created to be. This restorationprovides an identity which does not diminish individuality but instead allows believers tocelebrate their different giftedness within the framework of common spiritual union. Inrelationship with the Creator and grounded in truth, the believer is less susceptible to themanipulations and falsehoods of culture. Individual Christians are not answering the call to discipleship as Jesus commands, and the church has not been faithful in making disciples. This is addressed through the exegesis of four passages in the book of Matthew where Jesus issues a clear call to discipleship and the costs that faithful discipleship may entail for his disciples. The reasons why faithful discipleship is mandatory in order to follow Jesus are made clear. If one is not willing to follow Jesus as he commands, counting the costs he may have to count, he cannot be considered a disciple. Jesus’ call is a non-negotiable, and the ramification of ignoring it has eternal implications. The call to discipleship is also traced throughout the Bible in order to display that faithful discipleship in not a concept unique to Matthew. Even though the word “discipleship” does not appear the Bible, it is a thread woven throughout the pages of scripture. Discipleship demands obedience, and obedience has always been God’s will for his people. The contemporary problem–the lack of discipleship–is examined with a focus on the ramifications for the church. The impact of false teaching, materialism, apathy, fear of the world, and the church’s failure to make disciples are examined among the causes for the contemporary problem. This project examines solutions to the contemporary problem, as well as the positive ramifications faithful discipleship has on the church, the home, and society. This project examines what faithful discipleship looks like and how the church fulfills its mandate to make disciples."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128653803814912,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:03:14.512Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:11:54Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:04:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"64bd6635-80ed-4b69-a2b2-1f80a3fa19ab","accessControl_ssim":["cc161877-b0ff-44d9-b547-66e971f040b6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Pastoral Patience: The Forbearance Required Of A Pastor To Guide A Church And Shepherd Souls"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:11:54Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:04:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d961797d-ab74-4d09-874c-a84aa6f24771"],"hasLease_ssim":["ad44823b-c7b3-4de1-b975-30c7c59e1514"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Reformed Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Rod Culbertson D.Min."],"year_tesim":["2023"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. From this investigation it becomes clear that God is long-suffering and desires for Christians to be long-suffering with one another. Long-suffering is one of the primary ways that a pastor can love, serve, and lead his congregation. Pastoral patience can be found in many people throughout church history including what may seem to be an unlikely place: the life and ministry of Martin Luther. Luther displayed admirable patience as he made the actual Reformation changes to the theology and liturgy of the church at Wittenberg. He had long been convicted of such changes and yet displayed patience in their implementation.Much of contemporary scholarship does not address this topic at much length or with much detail. In many works, it is implied that pastoral patience is needful for the work of the church but rarely is it stated outright. The focus is often on what churches need to change or improve rather than how they should go about making the change. This section is supplemented by a survey of local church pastors and Christian school administrators regarding patience and leadership. The ministry model is articulated and generated using the Biblical, historical, andcontemporary research elements and lessons learned. The model is in the form of asuggested plan to be used by churches during their vision or revitalization process. I believe that it is. With everything that has happened in the past twenty-four months; COVID-19, refugees bombarding the boarder, the killing of unarmed black people, extremism at the capital, and Charlottesville, etc. The relation between religion and politics continues to be an important theme in political philosophy, despite the emergent consensus (both among political theorists and in practical political contexts, such as the United Nations) on the right to freedom of conscience and on the need for some sort of separation between church and state. One reason for the importance of this topic is that religions often make strong claims on people’s allegiance, and universal religions make these claims on all people, rather than just a community. For example, Islam has traditionally held that all people owe obedience to Allah’s will. Thus, it is probably inevitable that religious commitments will sometimes come into conflict with the demands of politics. But religious beliefs and practices also potentially support politics in many ways. The extent and form of this support is as important to political philosophers as is the possibility for conflict. Moreover, there has been a growing interest in minority groups and the political rights and entitlements they are due. One result of this interest is substantial attention given to the concerns and needs of minority groups who are distinguished by their religion, as opposed to ethnicity, gender, or wealth."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721351722827776,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:20:29.826Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:11:25Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:16:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c429ee0a-929e-42d4-b691-17131a68513f","accessControl_ssim":["7d7f56df-7955-4520-bf71-80fb8187ce34"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Pastoring Evolving Faiths: Faith Deconstruction and Reconstruction in a Post-Evangelical Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:11:23Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:46:04Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9fb399e7-2d3d-4491-bfc1-dc1935ae9949"],"hasLease_ssim":["2f7c3b60-a51e-4b97-9b03-90ec8dd17648"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Virginia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Ross Kane Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2023"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. It is an experience lamented by conservative evangelical and fundamentalist leaders as a step toward apostasy. But deconstruction is also a vital practice of those seeking to retain an authentic spirituality while challenging the authoritative and often regressive doctrines and practices of their traditional church. The goal of faith reconstruction is a revitalized, more compassionate, progressive, and inclusive belief system; one that rejects ancient perspectives of an angry God and embraces a perspective of a more loving and gracious God.The act of ministry at the heart of this doctoral thesis project was implementing the “Evolving Faiths Discussion Group” in an inter-denominational church in Norman, Oklahoma. The goal was to provide a “safe space” where Christians from fundamentalist and evangelical backgrounds could openly discuss their questions and doubts about the faith they inherited, and explore more palatable alternative theologies. The intent was to provide a regular place and time, resources, and fellow deconstructors to explore those concerns. The desired outcome was that the participants would continue faith exploration as a life-long journey, become comfortable with questions as normative of spiritual health, and experience an enhanced connection with God and the world (3Cs).The project engaged in action research, and employed adapted elements from heuristic phenomenology and ethnography. The thesis examines a recent social history of the “Fall of American evangelicalism,” and the “Rise of the Spiritual But Not Religious.” It constructs a biblical defense of deconstruction, describes the implementation of the Discussion Group, presents an analysis of five core evangelical themes as they affected the participants with a composite summary of the group experience as a whole, and concludes with some pastoral reflections."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129468479209472,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:16:11.446Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:09:22Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:03:22Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"62d8e3a7-7400-4d80-877e-b29399038266","accessControl_ssim":["9b896d6b-05be-4416-851c-455571fe33f1"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A Strategy for Revitalizing Calvary Christian Church through the Baptist Resource Network's Three Key Behaviors"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:09:21Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:01:46Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["df92000e-f66c-4304-8370-3335da1f1bd9"],"hasLease_ssim":["94049e56-01af-4d0f-a65f-6241a1020b19"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Missio Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2022"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert James Fontell Jr."],"subject_tesim":["Baptist Church","Church renewal","Congregational Church","Mission of the church","African American churches"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Statistics indicate that thousands of churches have experienced decline to such an extent that without intervention, these churches will reach the death stage in the life cycle of the church. It will seek to explain the evangelistic efforts that addressed the decline experienced by Calvary Christian Church (CCC), Northeast Philadelphia, PA, and brought the beginnings of revitalization. For many, the commitment to study the ancient text persists in being an elusive pursuit. The hinderance can be described as biblical nescience. Although numerous Christians adhere to religious doctrine, church ordinances, and corporate engagements such as regular Sunday worship, Christian instruction, communion, Bible study, prayer, ministry service, and giving, largely excluded from the framework of faith is Bible reading. Some Christians acknowledge the major obstacle to be a lack of understanding of the storyline. Another challenge for readers is finding relevancy in the text, while others hold to the notion that comprehensive Bible reading and study are the sole responsibility of the pastor and church leaders to guide Christians beyond these complexities and aid future believers to embrace the Living Word. This writing seeks to reenergize and rekindle the importance of reading and having a deeper understanding of the Good News through the use of a biblical plot-line that places emphasis on God’s mission."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129527981703168,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:17:08.193Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:09:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:21:18Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ccee7a29-227c-45e1-b9c4-6938a182657a","accessControl_ssim":["fa97241f-0c11-4517-abc2-64ecb6169e8f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A Training for Missio Seminary Staff, Faculty, and Board of Trustees to Begin the Process of Contextualizing the Move from Suburban Hatfield to Urban Philadelphia"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:09:20Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:01:04Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["eaea8191-967b-4e66-93f6-903eb6a8cce5"],"hasLease_ssim":["306cdaa3-3854-485f-baba-9bdfb774fe58"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Missio Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2022"],"location_tesim":["Pennsylvania"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ryan Nicholas Egli"],"subject_tesim":["Organizational change","Christianity and culture","Christian education of adults","Communities--Religious aspects"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Missio Seminary moved from Hatfield Pennsylvania to Philadelphia in 2019.
