This paper presents the theological understanding of hope in both the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament.  The issue of theodicy and the meaning of suffering is also discussed.  The different theological understandings of hope for this paper come from Jürgen Moltmann, Wolfhart Pannenberg and John Macquarrie.  A theology of dying and pastoral care techniques are described for the different stages of grief.  These techniques are helpful to pastoral caregivers in providing hope for those who are dying.  The community of faith and their importance in providing hope for the dying is not addressed.  Case studies are presented to describe how the author provided hope to the dying through pastoral care techniques. If the identity of deacons in the Church is ever clarified it will be only because the Church is willing to work with deacons to enable them to become sacraments and symbols of the ministry and service which Jesus so well demonstrated in his life.  The project involved the design, implementation and evaluation of a parish-based continuing formation program for seven permanent deacons.  In the design phase, a needs assessment, including the Deacon Perceiver Interview and the Myers-Briggs as well as systems analysis, were used to articulate goals for the continuing formation program.  In the implementation phase, nine training sessions were conducted which focused on the issue of identity development from the Whiteheads, Erikson, Zullo and Egan, and theological reflection skills. The purpose of this thesis is to focus attention on and bring understanding of God's work in raising up the Pentecostal Apostolic Church of God.  The events surrounding the revolution in Romania have rightly been called a miracle of God.  However, an even greater miracle has been God's raising up and preservation of the evangelical churches of Romania. The focus of this thesis will be historical, examining records of the events in the foundation of the church, as well as political events in recent times.
