This study explores the importance of symbols expressed in dreams, what may appear as nonsensical spontaneous comments, and uncharacteristic behaviors of patients at the end of life. The workshops are designed to inform and develop skills interpreting symbols to enhanced palliative care. Staff reports indicate the calming benefits that interpreting symbols extend to the dying patient. It proposes new ministry practices in bioethics. It calls for collaboration among bioethical methods to create a fitting response to challenging situations. Yet, theological educators did not perceive mentored education programs like R2E as a possible alternative to formal theological training for evangelists or church planters. With the population decline and aging of the Upper Midwest, many congregations are no longer able to support full-time ordained pastors. Congregations of several denominations have pressed into service licensed local pastors, and other lay persons to preach. United Methodist preachers serving in rural parishes in Iowa were coached in various aspects of preaching. The author considered biblical, theological, and missional issues that arise from explicitly inviting all in a congregation to receive communion without regard to Christian baptism or belief. After surveying several studies of open communion, the author questioned clergy in the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego about their support for or opposition to it. Considering that many churches are declining or have plateaued, this study sought to discover practical, effective strategies and techniques that have contributed to overall church growth by baptism and conversion. The author asked what these practices were, how they were taught, and how they were modeled by the leadership. The author's research preceding the case study gives a review and foundation from the early church's teaching and experience in evangelism, discipleship, missions, pastoral leadership, and church growth to the present. A closer look was given at the causes and effects of little to no obedience and commitment to the Great Commission.
