This research was held in January 2009. During this phase the author wrote and mailed invitational letters to pastors and churches to participate in her research. Based upon the response and support she received from the invitational letter the end results yielded one leadership team which was represented during the entire research.  A workshop and seminar was held at a selected church within the county once a month. The author's personal interviews were designed to identify the various stages of the HIV/AIDS virus and to assess the family needs. The ends results yielded that, as persons progress with the HIV/AIDS virus, the greater the need and care is required by the family. The writer posed the following research question: What role, if any, does exercise and nutrition play regarding wholistic living? The writer researched and discussed the degree of fitness from four different perspectives: mental, physical, social, and spiritual. Having used the quantitative and pro-active research methods, the writer established a fitness program in which participants committed to exercising at least three times a week for a minimum of thirty minutes per workout session. The team approach within the caring community seems to fit this need. The 'team' will be an interdisciplinary team whose goal is to provide a more effective pastoral care. As an ordained clergy in the United Methodist Church, one of my biggest frustrations has always been that the 'job' is bigger than one individual can successfully accomplish. The old adage 'two heads are better than one' rings true to me for Christian ministry. Through the years, many have felt that the laity understands pastoral care as the sole duty of the paid clergy. The scriptures clearly show that Jesus did not understand ministry as an individual endeavor, but as a team approach as he sent his disciples out to minister in pairs. Also, Jesus said, 'When two or more are gathered in my name, I am in the midst of them.' This is an expression of community gathering in Christ's name and ministering not alone, but with Christ in their midst. A survey revealed that Top Gun was instrumental in the respondents' lives and made an instant change in their spiritual disciplines and in their relationships with their families, work, and Christian service. Unfortunately, the survey also revealed that many men fall back into old habits through time, thus showing the need for ongoing relationships, discipleship, and accountability. Because the modern church holds very little common understanding of the history, ontology, and even functional role of the diaconate, modern deacons are often left with conflicting messages regarding their role, most often with regard to preaching. Therefore, this paper will include a foundation in the exegesis of several key passages of the Biblical text in which the diaconate is established (such as choosing of the first deacons in Acts, chapter 6), exercised (such as Stephen's sermon in Acts, chapter 7), and defined (as in 1 Timothy, chapter 3). Several passages and themes will be explored in depth to gain an understanding of the Biblical expectations of the office of deacon. Furthermore, the examples of deacons in each of the major eras of church history will be offered for consideration. Through study of a number of deacons' ministries throughout the Patristic, Medieval and Reformation eras, we shall explore the traditional roles and boundaries of the diaconal ministry. This project draws insights from contemporary Unitarian Universalist theology to articulate a Unitarian Universalist homiletic. This theology of preaching suggests that our preaching should invite and provoke listeners into participation, and through that participation, transcendence. The project includes sections on conversational preaching (McClure, Rose), process-theology preaching (Allen, Suchocki, Blosser), textual preaching for Unitarian Universalists, worship, preaching as liberation (Smith), and the preacher's authority and autobiography.  Implications for practice and pedagogy are suggested.
