Cathedrals are houses of prayer for all who come, whether they are pilgrims, tourists, church-wary attendees, or regular worshippers. This thesis finds that preaching in a way which is attentive to these guests is empowering for the faith of the regular cathedral worshipper. Those who live a life of faith bring many of the same questions and concerns as the guests from the secular, postmodern world. This project was designed to help Christians be more intentional about cultivating their marital relationships. The purpose of this project in ministry was to build biblical Christian marriages that would withstand the challenges that arise in the marital context. The research question asked was,  'If Christians are equipped by their minister for marriage enrichment, will their marriages be strengthened?' The director communicated biblical foundations, identified specific needs, and suggested potential partnerships, while emphasizing every-member ministry.  As a result, Rock Creek has progressed toward becoming a missional church through relationships with local organizations, known as Mission Partners. Although most faith-based community development corporations are established and sustained by larger, African American congregations, this study contends that small churches also have the capacity to achieve effective community development corporation outcomes in economically distressed neighborhoods. In an effort to implement the participatory action research (PAR) model, this researcher sought to facilitate the process of empowerment and social change through the development of three training workshops for pastors and ministers and one final evaluation session that summarized and reported on the input from the target group. It was expected that, through this process, the researcher and the participants would gain an increased awareness of the biblical/theological and historical foundations of community economic development; the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to launch a community development corporation; as well as the challenges associated with engaging in community development.  There were six major implications drawn from the results of this research project. The exploration was accomplished through a survey of 97 congregations in the Bloomington, Minnesota are and 108 members of the Episcopal Ecological Network. A review of pastoral care and homiletical literature was conducted; twenty experienced United Methodist elders were interviewed; and four sermons were submitted that had been preached on a Sunday immediately following a preacher's difficult life event. After analysis, it was discovered that preachers relate to the topics they preach about.
