Industries failed More church members were dying than new members joining. We formed a grief ministry to care for the church and community families. When death comes, the church now has a ministry offering God's grace, hope, and assurance of resurrection to the church and town. The author's ministry context is a moderately sized American Baptist congregation in east-central Pennsylvania where he preached several sermons incorporating various types of self-disclosure.  Congregational listeners verified the validity of the project thesis through feedback via questionnaires and group discussion with the author. Since then, changes in society, religion and the university itself have created a far different cultural setting for university congregations.  Through a survey of American Baptist university churches and case studies of two congregations, mission and identity in the university church are explored.  Churches studied exhibited a strong sense of identity, strong connections with the community, strong connections between faith and learning, 'spiritual balance,' and were reappropriating the church's tradition for the present day. The responses of my listeners showed that designing sermons according to the different spiritual types did make a difference.  Using the Holmes/Sager/Ware model of spiritual types can enhance the effectiveness of preaching and lead to measurable spiritual growth on the part of both preacher and listener.  The results of a first and second congregational religious life survey indicated measurable spiritual growth for all four spiritual types. The overarching research question was 'What leadership practices of senior pastors of Southern Baptist Churches in South Carolina with 500 or more worship attenders have enabled those churches to grow rapidly for three consecutive years?'  Grounded Theory was the method used in this research.  A 360 degree interview approach with the senior pastor and three key leaders in each church provided the data for research. Precedent research included a brief study of the spiritual difficulties facing second-generation Koreans, as well as relevant church planting and scriptural concerns.  Utilizing descriptive research, the author surveyed leaders of second-generation Korean congregations.  The objective was to obtain practical information and valuable insight into the strategies used to successfully establish independent congregations. Personal participation in missions has been missing in many traditional South Carolina Baptist churches. There is a need to shift to a new paradigm of doing missions.  A growing number of South Carolina Baptist churches have implemented a partnership strategy--resulting in greater involvement among the congregation.  The methodology used in this field research was a case study involving six churches.  These churches had little missions involvement until adopting the partnership strategy.
