The author studied developmental theorists and James Fowler's stages of faith.  She then developed a chart that correlated the accepted stages of physical, cognitive, and emotional development with Fowler's stages of faith. This dissertation seeks to answer questions relevant to how stress affects the lives of students, their spouses, and children. Research utilized a polling instrument and interviews of students at CIU.  The results indicate those who responded handle stress in a generally positive manner.  The major sources of stress were time demands, school work, and finances/debt.  The major symptoms of stress were tiredness, anxiety, and irritability. Paying attention to those conversations bridges a gap that exists in the congregation, leads to a connection between the preacher/leader and congregation and consequently provides the arena for significant preaching and shared ministry.  This author used methods of research, experience, case study, and conversations with congregational members. This project used case study, historical data, and pastoral and liturgical material from ministry settings following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center towers in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.  The project used a subjective analysis of interviews of professionals and their families who participated in United Methodist churches in New Castle, Indiana, Park City, Utah and Evergreen, Colorado. Eleven study participants photographed common parish events to communicate self-selected themes.  These elements were grounded in everyday life, conveying the integration of traditional Anglican values with challenges of multicultural life in a northwest Detroit neighborhood.  Through discussion and group process, a congregational mission statement evolved as 'Christian community spreading out into secular community.' The common practices of infant baptism, first eucharist for children, and confirmation of teens has produced this void.  This study examines the religious experience of persons who while fulfilling these first two scenarios do not choose to celebrate confirmation until adulthood. The restorative nature of discipline is explored in the section dealing with theology of ministry.
