The pastor has a wonderful opportunity to stand alongside of these durign a most difficult time in their lives. The project is presented in five sections including why this is a necessary ministry, a survey of the literature, interviews with persons who have cared for a terminally ill person, and recommendations as to further studies. The Kansas City North Oak Church was in a stage of its life-cycle in which it needed to recover its missionaly focused purpose, with missional praxes. The purrpose of this project was to explore and test the proposition that Christian corporate worship patterns and practices will shape and support the core value that the church is 'a Missional People' into the ecclesial practice of a missional church--a church for others. The research indicated that a missionally focused church demonstrates a consistency in: (1) A congregatinoal missional core value, (2) Missionally focused patterns and practices in corporate worship, and (3), Missionally focused ecclesial praxis. These stories serve as a basis for the development of a theology of suffering and compassion to address church litigation. The theoretical foundation for the study is in adult education and examines concepts of experiential and transformative learning, processes of meaning-making and the social construction of the self, as well as the centrality of narrative and autobiography in personal learning. Theological reflections focus on the social and historical conditions of learning in the Christian community, the narrative structure of faith, and the contributions of both narrative and biographical theology to an understanding of Christian identity and change. The research methodology used is qualitative case study guided by Mishler's narrative approach to research interviewing. Five participants were interviewed with an attempt at gender equity and variety in denominational attachment. Results reveal the intense relationship between personal change, vocational identity and ministerial practice. The study demonstrates the extent to which lifelong themes were translated into ministerial practice, how trauma impacted the learning process, and the contribution of faith to learning. General Conference"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Since 1980, the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church has been in union talks with the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.  The Plan on Church Union Task Force was created to maintain the essence of Methodism in the proposed union.  This reasearch evaluates the endeavors of the Task Force and its actions in the proposed plan of union from the perspective of various districts of the AME Zion Church.  Background research was conducted on previous Methodist unions to determine what characteristics produced sustained unions.  The occurence of 'Spencer churches' like the African Union Methodist Protestant (AUMP) and Union American Methodist Episcopal churches (UAME) give descriptive and comparative insight into the nature of black church union and church merger strategy.  African Methodist Episcopal Church proposals for church union from 1864-1922 appear in Appendix J. The procedure of the study is to use formative evaluative research to determine how the document 'A Plan of Church Union' can be adjusted to ensure its adoption by the General Conference.  It also attempts to answer the question 'how can procedures and processes be improved in order to achieve stated objectives?'  The goal of the study determine the opinion of the districts of the AME Zion General Conference's of 'A Plan of Church Union' in order to inform the Task Force's course of action in the future.
