The thesis was field-tested by two groups in two separate churches.  Each group followed the theological basis and the guidelines that were recommended for building and implementing a vision that was to lead to a new ministry within each church. A new ministry was born within each church.  The process and the experience of the process brought forth a positive and renewing effect upon the participants and spread beyond them. The aim was to determine the issues that are importnt to once-churched individuals and how to shape sermons on these issues. During the project, both churched and once-churches individuals completed surveys to determine their feelings about the church and their personal needs.  Four sermons were crafted in response to these surveys.  Participants listened to and responded to each sermon.  Changes were made to future sermons based upon the response each week. They desire a friendly, faith filled community that has an affirming and welcoming pastoral staff. The project methodology uses exploratory questions for the self-administered questionnaire, focus groups and personal interviews. The data analysis of the variables resulted in the following conclusions: 96% of the returnees actively search for a parish; they want a pastor who preaches and prays well; they want to be involved in ministry both within and beyond the parish. Parabolic interpretation has changed over the centuries with parables no longer viewed as allegory, but now understood as metaphors with extended meaning. In review of the purpose, Jewish source, nature, and language of parables this project examined how contemporary preachers can use Jesus' parables to communicate the message of God's Kingdom. The research explored the perceptions of catechumens and candidates, in order that pastoral ministers might facilitate the credibility of the Church's image in actualizing the liberation of humanity. For the catechumens and the candidates, critical areas of concern are identified as family, education, and spirituality. Theological research was conducted on the parish and seminary formation. The author conducted focus groups with parishioners and sent surveys out to college seminarians to help in the development of the parish model. Parish-like councils and commissions were established. The methodology used in the research was the case study method. The project focused on twelve interviews of pastors from Southern Baptist churches in the state of Kentucky.  The interview schedule was designed around nine research questions. The conclusions reached are as follows. All twelve pastors stressed the importance, or the essence of the spiritual disciplines to their ministry. All twelve pastors identified the importance of the spiritual disciplines but struggled with various obstacles in practicing the disciplines. Eleven of the twelve stated that their 'devotional reading' of the Bible was separate from sermon preparation. That focus of inclusion offers a foundation for biblical and theological rationales for alternative understandings of hospitality and concrete expressions of welcome offered by actual congregations.
