This methodology pays particular attention to both the rational and emotional aspects of preaching and utilizes celebration as a culminating dynamic that brings these together and makes the sermon effective. Five sermons were preached using a particular African-American model for both preparation and proclamation that emphasized celebrating the Gospel. Immediate responses were solicited from congregants using a sermon feedback form designed to gauge the emotional impact and effect on behavior the sermon had. The reuslts revealed that this model does translate effectively into a non-black context where particular attention is paid to culturally congruent expressions of celebration. The study was done through qualitative means. Research was accomplished through interviews and community studies. The conclusion of the study was that the need for a safe place that offered help to students after school until the parents or caregivers returned home from the work place--a place that would teach character, tutor, mentor and be a positive place to hang out with their friends. The project gave a positive influence for the community as it opened its doors as a game room and tutoring/mentoring center for students after school. The involvement with parents and the community was also a positive outcome. Relationships were developed and lives changed by spending time and helping in ways that meet the needs of those involved. The study and implication of the BLOC House revealed to the author that communities are crying for someone to spend time with their families and help them live their everyday lives in a way that makes a difference and has purpose. This BLOC House is one avenue that makes that possible as a living gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128371063685120,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:58:44.870Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:14:31Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:16:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"078ef036-db86-42cc-b9d1-9fc45a32e9e4","accessControl_ssim":["9a1ce8db-42e1-469e-bceb-5dd2f693af6d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Educating religious leaders about organ donation and organ transplantation: using the theory of gift exchange as a model for pastoral ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:14:30Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:20:24Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["bf9f18ed-4f75-4e04-b011-bcf50284e94e"],"hasLease_ssim":["c6b01a66-0097-4367-bff0-44588a7c5312"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Interdenominational Theological Center"],"advisor_tesim":["Riggins Earl"],"year_tesim":["2002"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Harold John Lockett"],"publisher_tesim":["Interdenominaltional Theological Center"],"subject_tesim":["Transplantation of organs, tissues","Donation of organs, tissues, etc","Exchange theory (Sociology)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this ministry project is to educate religious leaders about a different approach to understanding organ donation and organ transplantation, using the Theory of Gift Exchange as the model paradigm. This ministry project is based on the premise that most religious leaders generally use dated statistical materials, life changing stories, and personal experiences to raise awareness on the subject. The result of this ministry project (through personal interviews and questionnaires) discovered that religious leaders understand the Gift Exchange only in relation to the exchanging of personal gifts on special occasions and holidays. Thus, the conclusion gathered from this ministry project suggests that the Theory of Gift Exchange is an excellent pastoral model to educate about organ donation and organ transplantation. This concept makes it easy for the religious leader to understand and embrace the subject with little resistance, particularly because one can see that the overall intent is about gift giving and gift receiving."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717331972128768,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:16:36.292Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:14:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:51:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"954fd608-5f6a-4d8e-acf0-ff8f298550e4","accessControl_ssim":["35ca500f-6d12-4c89-b07b-36b00c6a8238"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Inviting praise and welcoming dialogue: preaching as celebration and conversation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:14:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:30:15Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9fdf9855-a673-4a17-a58d-8c0a27046724"],"hasLease_ssim":["a4017cf4-fc06-4fc2-a6bc-826bec95b994"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["North Park Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Paul E Koptak"],"year_tesim":["2002"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gregory A Fullerton"],"publisher_tesim":["North Park Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author's thesis is that the same sermon can both invite listeners to an agreement expressed in a shared experience of celebration and also welcome subsequent dialogue with listeners who hold another perspective. Both serve the renewal efforts of the Byzantine Catholic Church, towards the development of mission and healthy interrelationship."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127132370370560,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:39:03.560Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:08:38Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:25:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d73e837d-f867-498a-a1db-0f552d72cc97","accessControl_ssim":["e1c36e1b-5396-46a8-b21f-5e1104578c1a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["There are many rooms in God's house: bridging the gap between pastoral counseling and the community of faith"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:08:35Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:17:17Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["05c20c36-79f5-4b04-bd38-fe7cd9d038af"],"hasLease_ssim":["161f42ac-1742-4583-b3e6-d72d58ad631e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Roslyn A Karaban"],"year_tesim":["2002"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Joseph A McKay"],"publisher_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Religion and drama","Pastoral counseling"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis, 'There are Many Rooms in God's House,' is a pastoral perspective using drama to enable individuals to journey beyond counseling and tell their story in the context of the Biblical tradition. The power of drama to communicate values, truths, and beliefs has a long history in the secular milieu. Although the biblical tradition is not a dramatic tradition, its narrative is flexible enough to become a dramatic presentation. This study traces the role of drama in the Roman Catholic tradition of faith and its use as a viable tool for individuals to experience healing and reconciliation as they tell their story in the context of sacred scripture. Research has revealed that while many individuals may seek pastoral counseling, such intervention may not always lead them to a place of acceptance in the community of faith. These individuals may take solace in hearing the Word of God and allow that Word to draw them into the compassionate presence of a loving God. Empirical data from pastoral counseling experience, biblical and theological insights, use of active contemplation methods, social and theological issues take on new meaning when one experiences exclusion from 'the rooms' of the Christian community. The power of a dramatic play can be used to build a bridge between the individual and the Christian community. The reflections of the participants are revealed in the power of this medium, which brings healing and reconciliation to individuals and communities. This work recognizes drama as a credible tool to communicate truth, to address issues that are often ignored, and to engage a community in a dynamic way. Drama has power where words fail. It causes something to happen within both the community and the dramatist."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130051490611201,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:25:27.450Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:01:18Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:31:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6eb5af44-629b-4e06-8029-d838cb8018bb","accessControl_ssim":["f2f36421-22b0-4e1f-9296-d27a7917f62c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Dialectic preaching in a postmodern ethos"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:01:17Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:22:31Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6a6070a5-f6dd-48db-a89e-91dae29e7029"],"hasLease_ssim":["88f83380-6f82-4e39-8e5c-9a5a03d6ccf0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["John A Colacino"],"year_tesim":["2002"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John A Kroschel"],"publisher_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Postmodernism","Law and gospel","Preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This work develops a homiletic method that is effective in a postmodern setting while retaining a law gospel tension.
