Within a funeral setting mourners are pondering not only the death of the deceased but also their own destiny. The eschatological emphasis of the gospel is the primary template that shapes this future-oriented ministry of possibilities. In group spiritual direction a group leader enables participants to provide spiritual guidance and care for one another. The project coaches group members in using cognitive therapy--a preferred treatment for depressed persons in which change is accomplished through adult learning--to address spiritual needs of the member whose difficulties are the focus of any given session. The project facilitates a model of adult learning, known as Transformative Learning, through practice of reflection.
