They are uncomfortable with certain beliefs that they associate with churches, but they appreciate church rituals and want to expose their children to Christian stories and values. Their busy lives are influenced by insistent messages from a consumer culture. Their husbands generally have little interest in church. In an evaluation following the seminar participants conclude that a hierarchical management style stifles and hinders full involvement and cooperation between leaders and followers; lack of involvement and ownership by followers is a major drawback of hierarchical management; withholding information and insisting that people do what has to be done without adequate explanation destroys motivation and renders people ineffective. The pastoral staff must empower lay ministry and lay leadership, and then empower lay people as primary caregivers.
